Guys, I am planning to start this drama. Being a scaredy cat I am just afraid to start. Can anyone please tell…
This drama is “scary” if one is not used to gore/bloody scenes. I don’t like horror and it was a harrowing first watch for me, but it is now a top favourite.
Since you already completed Revenant, likely TG would be okay too, though they are quite different.
I’m 6 episodes in and I don’t understand the hate for the female lead in the comments lmao?? the behavior…
Thanks so, so much for saying this! I don’t understand the critical comments either. I thought she was written and performed to (near) perfection, especially in the context of the show. (Admittedly, I am biased, as am an unapologetic Kang Gil Young fangirl).
I am sad T_T . I think I am going to do my 4th or 5th rewatch .
I did manage one full rewatch and other mini-segments - no idea which number in the last 3 years - before it left Netflix, but hoping that it will be offered on other streaming platforms one of these days soon.
Agreed. I was pissed at one point that the plans for a movie/sequel were apparently scrapped…..but that being…
I would have been lapping any movie/sequel up too, but I am very content just with what we already have. I do not wish for any extra (though a movie to wrap up Park Hong Ju might have been lit if done right, but fine with the fact that they did not follow through).
Everything was done so superbly in the show itself, and the ending was just the right pitch of hopeful that any more would spoil what a beautiful experience this show is (for me.)
Lol nah can’t agree with you on this one…No romance at all took this show to another level. In some ways,…
LOL 😆 No, I don’t mean romance in the show itself. It is PERFECT the way it is.
I did not expect any in the first place nor is there space in the story for it. (Don’t care one way or the other, just find comments to that effect a bit off because most such shows normally do NOT have any romance).
I am content for it to be head canon/‘fandom’, and that is the shipping I meant. I ship the OT3 too. Post-canon (not in the show). 😄🥰
Your opinion is totally valid. But I must 100% disagree with you in regard to the transformation. It's exactly…
YES and YES. Thank you so much for saying this.
GEC is not a girly girl and CHG did not fall in love with someone girly. CP is such a fantastic romance precisely because they let the FL remain herself just as she is. There is nothing more validating than being loved just the way one is, tomboy, a-bit-whiny and inhaling-food behaviour etc included.
Rewatching through the years, the only reason I did not mind the ‘transformation’ to a more feminine version of herself at the end is because she is still young and to want to experiment and discover different aspects of oneself is normal. The fact she went to Italy helped with that reasoning. 🥹🥰
Just finished another rewatch. My heart is content 😭❤️ Even after all these years I have so much love for…
Same. Never fails to let me relive the feels. Still my top 3 favourites after more than a decade. 🫶🏽 I fall for Go Eun Chan and the show all over again every time I rewatch. Go Eun Chan is everything 😍🥰
I've only seen two episodes and I too would die for FL so ML's motivations make total sense to me, lol. I wish…
Sorry for butting in, but I periodically visit the comments section to revisit the squee/feels from this show through reading comments from people who also enjoyed/love it. (It has been literal years since I completed this show). Thank you.
Kang Gil Young from “The Guest” (non-romance) is another flawed but awesome FL, if on the more violent spectrum (aggressive with anger issues). But she burns (to borrow from Hozier).
I love KGY as much as I love Jang Hye Seong (and Go Eun Chan from Coffee Prince), so that is something.
Dramas older than 2016 get bad ratings on production quality alone. Some people just don't like shows that "feel"…
Thank you for saying this, and your reviews below is just spot on and beautifully succinct. After years (and even some “better” shows), no other shows - aside from “The Guest” - has managed to hit a perfect mix of nearly everything for me.
This is still my top favourite after years. Just a fantastic classic and deservedly so.
Is anyone a Kang Gil Young and Choi Yoon shipper? Anyone at all? (Post-canon/epilogue, headcanons; also OT3 shipper).
As a rabid fan of this show and rare pair, I welcome anyone who wants to discuss them (or the show in general).
I am missing Kang Gil Young already 😭🥺 (To echo another commentator below, “The Guest” will be leaving Netflix on 30th November, 2023. Give it a chance while you can).
I am devastated. 😭 Trying to squeeze in a full rewatch or two before it leaves. I will miss my beautiful, angry, aggressive, stubborn and awesome Kang Gil Young (and the Trio).
is it that scary?, i do hate horror dramas but i wanna give it a try
It is scary if one is not normally a horror/gore fan. It was a harrowing watch for me, but totally worth it because characters’ dynamics and the emotional pacing/beats of this drama are its highlights and strengths.
Perhaps, but one of the reason I love this show to bits is because of the “unique” camera works/shots/angles.…
It is definitely a preference, and it made the show distinctly unique for me because I have been staring at the stills/gifs of this show for the last two years. I am very grateful to the PD/crew because I have never been as enamoured with the aesthetics of a show or the ways the visuals of the performers were presented as TG did for me. (Not to say that it was without flaws. Preferences are weird that way).
I am sincerely sorry that those same elements do not work for you too.
I enjoy watching this but is it just me or the camera angle and camerawork in this is a little weird?
Perhaps, but one of the reason I love this show to bits is because of the “unique” camera works/shots/angles. This show has many gorgeous shots (if one likes that style, I suppose; and I do because the stills are just amazing). They showcased the performers aesthetics in such flattering ways (and those are already stunning people).
She is beyond gorgeous and gave stunningly brilliant performances in The Guest and The King. Kang Gil Young will forever be a favourite. Can’t wait to see more projects from her.
I enjoyed this little gem of an unconventional drama a lot, and the performances were wonderful. Hoping more people will give this “fun” show a chance.
