The show has spectacular action and a very intense central performance from Joo Won.Still, couldn't last beyond…
I agree, for a K-drama, the torture scenes shocked me quite a bit. Never expected a k-drama to tackle such issues. However, their portrayal of the Japanese here is just a tip of the iceberg compared to what they have actually done in the nations they colonized during WWII. Korea probably suffered the most since they were colonized for around 30 years, I think. A lot of the countries who suffered under Japan no longer talk about the issues of WWII since Japan is friends with mostly everyone now.
OVERRATED TRUST ME THIS IS NOT LEE JOON KI's best drama NOT by a long shot
Yass! They tried very hard to make the story a lot more dramatic and angsty with more action and cutesy-cutesy characters but ultimately failed. The original Bu Bu Jing Xin was just so perfect though. It had very little to no flaws. It's like watching a really good novel (if that makes sense? lol.) The narrative was really well done, you could actually imagine them and the story as real. This Korean version though just became a total soap-opera-ish. Which is sad, because it had so much potential...

I agree. This is overrated. If you're interested in the plot, go watch the original, Bu Bu Jing Xin (Startling by Each Step?). It's quite old though, I think it was released back in 2011 so I'm not sure if it will still be good by today's standards. But that was one of my favorite 'til this date.
I'm a bit conflicted with this one. I loved Bu Bu Jing Xin and I can't help but compare the two. I think…
Yeah.. I was actually already liking it then that happened. It became so cringe-y especially since he was pursuing her and she was trembling in fear at his presence. :/ This show could have been way better than the original one but it was all over the place at times. lol. The progression of the story in the Chinese version were a bit slower but it felt so real though which made it more heartbreaking.
I'm a bit conflicted with this one. I loved Bu Bu Jing Xin and I can't help but compare the two. I think the chemistry for the main leads was better in this one, however they kind of ruined the progression of their relationship when she suddenly became so terrified of him.
I watched the Chinese version of this so I got interested and checked this out.
Currently at episode 2 but my gahd, the female lead is stupid!! Chasing princes, demanding apologies, hitting and getting in a brawl with a prince... They try to look cute and all but come on, how old is she to not understand that she is in an era where rank matters!
This had so much potential. :( For the first half, it was almost perfect I thought this was going to be one of my favorites until it became so cheesy and cringe-y I had to drop it.
i.e. Song's storyline, who the hell is Hyon Joo?, and what happened to their old roommate? Seems like they were supposed to explore those stories but they ran out of time or they just forgot... :(
I really loved this and kind of want to re-watch it again asap. But it feels like the drama was unfinished? There were still some sub-plot that was not really resolved or revealed.
i'm starting to watch empress ki, and although it is quite good, the evil laugh of one of the antagonist there makes me shudder. And I suddenly realized that one of what sets apart Queen Seon Deok from all other sagueks are the antagonists. They were very well written characters who had a certain charisma and elegance in them. They didn't do the typical evil laugh, evil stare, crazy shouting monologue and all that.

You're welcome! Thanks for adding me up as well! :)
There's still something I don't understand... Why did Rio order Naoko to bully Tomoki so they could befriend her? Was there a reason behind that? Or was it just for fun?
I think the saddest thing about this is that in the end, she was still alive. How lonely that must have felt... especially since she saw the guy's reincarnation...
Maybe I've gotten weird, but I actually kind of liked her acting in bridal mask. I agree that with a better actress though, Mok Dan's character could have been given more depth. But still, I liked her acting there. :)
