For me the biggest problem is the way the script seems to be written. Zooey doesn't sound American she sounds…
i wasn't supposed to log in anymore on this site but i felt the urge to RANT about this remake because of how unsatisfactory everything is. HYD is one of my favorite dramas of all time. it's an embarrassment for american TV to come up with *this* when its predecessors were extremely successful. all 3 versions took my country and every other asian country where they were shown by storm. haha HYD WAS corny but i never noticed it because of how awesome the actors were! the whole drama turned out to be so funny. nobody will be able to portray tsukasa as well as jun matsumoto (likewise for mao inoue as tsukushi). that's why almost everyone who's seen the remakes preferred the japanese version in spite of the unrealistic plot. i was looking forward to this but after giving away half-baked clips & noticing how disorganized everything is, i'm starting to lose my faith in this show.
My opinion: First, they could have picked another title. Second, i do not like how they changed the lead girl…
oh they really did study the material, huh? well, i can really see that, judging from the trailer. it's obvious. it's SO obvious that they could not even make the right choice for makino tsukushi's character, based on the SECOND actress they cast. if it weren't for the concerns voiced out by some people, they would not have replaced her. they've been delaying this show so many times. the production team and crew, while admittedly hardworking, are incompetent and disorganized. they can't even update their website properly nor come up with an interesting trailer with the CORRECT names of the actors, even a mere "official" poster. OKAY?????? OKAY!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

LOL you got such a long post. I don't think this remake, or rather, *show* will work. It would have been more believable if they would have it in an exclusive private school where the students would be more vicious than the Gossip Girl crowd. That would be more believable than an "art school". IMO, it's a bad idea to copy dialogues and scenes from BOF because obviously the way people deal with romantic relationships and how they express their feelings are very different in American TV. How can they pull these scenes off without making the whole thing look corny? How can they show the genuineness of the romance without sexualizing it? How can they show the naivete, stupidity, childlike traits of a cruel school bully? Of all Asian dramas, they just HAD to pick this one, a classic. The HYD shoujo manga is the mother of all shoujo mangas. Fans will be ruthless.
My opinion: First, they could have picked another title. Second, i do not like how they changed the lead girl…
Yes I KNOW. I've known this little bit of detail since I was 13 when I first watched AND fell in love with Meteor Garden, the Taiwanese adaptation way back in 2002. That's why I said "source material", didn't I? OKAY.
My opinion: First, they could have picked another title. Second, i do not like how they changed the lead girl from the name to the place where she works. Zoey?! ALL 3 versions took into consideration the meaning behind tsukushi's name, which is "weed", or "grass" (shan cai, jan di). It was reflective not only of her resilience as a character, but also of the stark differences between her and the princely flower boys in terms of social status which played the biggest factor in the development of the romance. They made her look like a ghetto girl and work at a couture shop. They changed the little things that made her who she was: a poor plain jane who stood out because of her strength and principles. They'd probably change the others too. Guess they didn't study the source material of the story like they said and just based it on the Kdrama (which makes it worse, IMO).
i don't want to make one. must-watch nalang so i won't forget those that i plan to see. i'm too lazy to keep adding over and over the dramas i've watched. -_-
Thanks a lot! :) US Navy?? wow that's really cool. :D But how come the US Navy though? Wouldn't you want to serve in the Philippine Army instead?
Ah yes, not everyone can pursue it. I guess I'm starting to think that I'm one of those people. Harhar. But I will finish it no matter what. I don't want to end up with regrets about not finishing something.
Ooh you have any other J-drama recommendations? In the romance and mystery/thriller genres because those are my favorites in J-dramas.

Ah.. So we're the same age. Wag nalang tayong mag 'po' at 'opo'. It makes me feel old! Hehe. So are you working na? I didn't watch Dream High kasi it reminded me of High School Musical/Glee from the premise. I'm not a fan of either. In MoonSun, nagustuhan ko lang yung first 6 episodes, when the teenagers and kids were still the characters? Much better than the older ones IMO. I felt that the writing went downhill after the first half. Nasayangan ako sa story because it could've been better. I'm currently a Thomasian ^^. I've always wanted to watch Two Weeks kasi super fan ako ng writer ng 49 Days. I loved how she tied the stories together. I hope I won't be disappointed by the ending this time.

really? sige2x i'm going to watch it next week. i watch more k-drama than j-drama cuz hindi ako familiar sa mga j-dramas. i want to watch more though. i really like their romantic comedies (much better than k-drama IMO) pero hindi ako expert sa pagpili eh. i don't know what to choose. hehe. pero ultimate favorite ko pa rin ang hana yori dango, no matter what. i also like kimi ni todoke. i'm putting "two weeks" on hold until the exams are done. then i'll try to finish everything sa "must watch" list ko dito, especially "gu family book" and "golden empire". :)
dito ako sa metro manila nag-aaral cuz my cousins are also here. super stressful talaga at nakaka-discourage sometimes. pero i always think, no retreat no surrender. :) how about you, graduate ka na rin ba?

yep. chinese yung mama ko pero yung dad ko filipino. pero pinoy talaga ako at heart. lol. i graduated 4 years ago. i'm taking up law now after working for a while. finals na namin this week so i do MDL during short breaks. what are you watching?
is this going to be a sad drama? because i really don't like stories where the guy is "stuck in his past." and the manga was really sad, from what i read from the reviews...
i heard good things about the manga and anime; i never finished either because well, they're both too long. i adored this movie though. it portrayed first love as it ought to be, you know before sexually-charged shows dominated the screen: sweet innocence. of course the girl was weird on the outside albeit very sweet and gentle at heart BUT what i loved about it was the fact that the guy was so accepting of her. i remember a thai movie which had the same plot as this too, a really popular guy falling for the average, unpopular girl even before she became "beautiful". the lead guy there was also very sweet and nice. i am kinda sick of all the jerk, alpha male snobs proliferating in dramas that it's refreshing to see a kind, non-judgmental male lead once in a while.
