Very funny that people didn't hate the drama for the poor quality throughout rather for the ending where the FL didn't end up with whom they wanted. Not surprised though. People were similarly immature for LA2 ending. Not responding to stupid justifications.

Just finished the 14th episode and the confrontation scene is what got me, woah! I'm glad to see how I was right about the drama attempting to weigh the deeds of even the main character, the king. Because in those times, every single person did lie and wronged others. Hence this is a different sageuk drama which does show thr actual shades of the time.

1) The King as a crown prince spilled in front of the eunuchs, about his father's plan to bring sarim, leading to her mother's sacrifice and the murder of Yoo Haksoo.... 2) The king not telling Jung (his lover/Queen Park) about his true identity which could have helped Jung in not agreeing to left state councilor's plan.... 3) The king decieving Lady Cho and trying to pressure Minister Cho and his false promise.... 4) The king not sticking to his words and deciding to follow his heart by marrying Park.... 5) Finally his immature strategy of defeating Queen Dowager which led to many tragic consequences. This last point angers me so much bcs so many people ended up dying for that stupid plan.

So after all, everything was done by the king himself. I mean there were 4 instances where everything took turn throughout. If otherwise had happened there, the story itself didn't have to happen. And it all happened bcs of the king. This tells, the reaction by the other characters were caused by what the King did and those characters turned antagonist in the course. The writer does a good job in bringing forward a lot of thoughts including the negative sides of the so called protagonist himself. Mentioning the 4 turning points in spoiler below...

After watching a few episodes This feels like the aristocrats vs the enlightened scholars.Or maybe I became too…
You are right and you are not. LT has surely been made the protagonist but this drama is a battle of ideologies as you said in your first sentence, than conspiracies for power and the struggle to sustain in the race. A lot of people won't agree, but midway through the drama, I realized he wasn't really the central character, everyone relies on their own games here and their action relies on how they're treated by someone. By the end of 12th episode, I am literally not interested in cheering for anyone. Not really a neutral stance but I'm just being a spectator, who knows who'll win still assessing everyone's faults and deeds.

Hi, coerced is the wrong word, to be coerced implies to be forced and to be unwilling; she was more than willing…
apologies for the wrong choice of word. for a moment, I was angry, I won't lie. yes, the decisions Lady. Cho made was wrong too, I saw what she did only in 10th but that's natural for she's been deceived. Usual human psychology you know. Not saying whatever she does will be ignored.

The fact that LT coerced one lady to be his lady, no matter his plans, and then abandoned her, will justify any rash action by that girl. And in that case, he surely is the bad guy and needs to be punished.

After finishing 9 episodes, I understand where are you coming from but this story is supposed seprate tge protagonist and antagonist and for the time we get to witness, LT is the former and Park is the antagonist, for clear. No matter his intentions in the past, he is now desperate to make things go his way and goes to any length. I am so happy the writer has attempted to showcase the flaws of the positive characters and pros of the negatives, which makes us not only sympathize with bothz but also have a deeper understanding about the conflicts between human desires and psychology, while one forgets they're mere beings.

What happened at the end of ep 8, which marks the interval of the show, is something I desperately wanted to happen…
But in all these, I think all the issues did stem from one mistake. that is not telling YJ the truth about his identity. Things wouldn't have come to this extent otherwise.

At the end of 8th episode
What happened at the end of ep 8, which marks the interval of the show, is something I desperately wanted to happen but with YJ's entry to palace the desire slowly started dying down and the turn of events right before the 8th's ending did convince me the most that what I had wished for is futile now. But the ending of the same irks me now. j understand he decided to follow his heart but after all that had happened and after knowing the kind of sacrifice YJ was ready to make, everything has gone back to zero. The show will definitely become more interesting as the 2nd half starts but still, it could have ended there, there were plenty of opportunities that the leads let go.
