I suppose we’ve reached the point where the drama is about to pick up pace. So, I’m putting this one on hold until it’s completed—I can’t deal with cliffhangers, and I strongly suspect there will be plenty ahead. I also need reassurance of a happy ending, because according to my personal drama by-laws: no happy ending, no deal, no matter how epic others may find it.
This is like romance focused with politics and military sprinkled throughout.Marriage takes place early but no…
Ah, if it’s a romance interwoven with political and military intrigues—without the latter overshadowing the former, as you mentioned—then it might just align with my rather picky tastes.
I can stomach harsh treatments if they stem from genuine reasons, not from contrived setups like bratty behaviour or baseless accusations that haven’t even been mutually addressed. And since, prima facie, this drama seems to fall into the former category, that’s promising. I’m always up for an enemies-to-lovers trope when it’s handled with maturity—it’s always a treat to witness the eventual payoffs.
I’m sold, man. Since you also enjoyed the dramas I mentioned and are finding this one compelling too, perhaps our tastes do align. So I shall honour thy testimony! Thanks for the details!
How is this drama? Would you recommend it for someone who loved Love Like the Galaxy, The Story of Ming Lan, and The Rebel Princess? I know these favourites may not form a perfectly coherent pattern, but still—would you say this one is similar in a broad sense? One thing I do know I enjoy is the arranged marriage trope developing early in the story, especially when it’s handled without over-the-top coldness or disrespect from either side, even if love isn’t there at the beginning.
I’ll be waiting for its completion to watch it. I’m hoping for ‘My Happy Marriage’ vibes. And please, let it be a happy and fluffy ending, despite the WWII looming behind the storyline.
The Sword and The Brocade isn't bad. Better romance at least. The actress is also very good.
Thank you, it’s so kind of you for such a recommendation! I’d love to know whether the romance is the primary focus of the drama or if it takes a backseat to the female lead’s personal growth. Additionally, do the main couple get enough screen time together? I’ve come across some dramas where the couple’s interactions are quite limited compared to other aspects of the plot, so I’d appreciate any insights!
Besides the story, I just have to say—I love the late Ming aoqun(jacket and skirt), especially the high and round collars. I don’t know how many historical dramas are actually set in the Ming dynasty, but this is the first one I’ve watched. Any recommendations for more dramas set in the Ming or early Qing?
