Review The Loyal Pin
The plot and chemistry does start to actually pick up around Episode 2-3/4 when Anin comes back from abroad, the pacing is a bit faster. Though I have no guarantee against future useless drama, I do share you sentiment that the first episode was tedious to get through.

The way Anin comes back from abroad acting like lesbianism is her god-given right omg 😂🤣 I'm very curious to know what western 1950s women's school she was sent to.

I only found out today that they made a second season, I binged watched it in one sitting and maybe I'm going crazy but you guys I think this may actually be kinda genius.

The caricature of kdramas from season 1 is kind of pushed to an even higher degree, to the point where it's not really something to watch if you're looking for a kdrama parody (which is more what season 1 was). Season 2 levels up to becoming straight social commentary and frankly a pretty impressive satire of incel culture (and how slippery the slope to violent sexism still is today).

"Good guys never need to say that they're good guys."

(I forgot what my username was before posting this comment, seeing it now is actually hilarious).

That last scene in episode 5... Toyoda Yudai (Sahashi Toma) must be an incredible actor, I kept hearing a voice chant "Please touch me!" and he wasn't even saying it out loud!

> I'm kind of tired of this notion that OWLs need to 'stop being so cautious'What does OWL stand for? And I get…
OWL is an acronym that stands for Older Wiser Lesbian, I'm not sure exactly when it originated but it was popularised by Cheryl Dunye (the director of The Watermelon Woman) who made a film in 2010 named 《The Owls》, it's a term used to refer to elders in the lesbian community who have been out for a long time.

As for the second part of my comment, you are correct in assuming that I'm referring to the divide between tolerance and acceptance (there is a stark difference between "I don't care, why do you have to be all dramatic about it?" and "I'm happy for you and if things ever get rough I'm here for you.").

However beyond that I'm also aiming that most people have a very superficial or barely rudimentary understanding of the oppression and cruelty that lesbians face exactly. Especially in how far it starkly differs from the homophobia men face and how the specific violence our patriarchal societies reserve for women plays into it.

Once people fall into this bubble where we think everyone is tolerant of it and "this is an issue that is no longer at play today" we, on a societal scale, undermine the systemic character of said issue. When there are reasons to stay closeted other than the disapproving look of others; it may help to avoid financial repercussions, sexual/domestic violence, broken familial bonds, discrimination at work that appears in forms other than homophobic remarks, etc... Most people (who already are not guaranteed to be very feminist) are simply not going to concern themselves with the specific issues of a minority they are not a part of, and that means they risk doing kind but clumsy things... clumsy things that could today still cost someone their life sadly.

I loved 《She makes my heart flutter》 for this exact reason! Though yes, progress has been made and hiding is not the necessity it once was, there are still people that require discretion, be it out of habit or actual sensitive circumstance.

To be fair though, you don't see anyone being as serious and nitpicky about the political context of a series in the commment section of a BL, so of course, I don't mean to say all this as a discredit to the very much needed lesbian representation we are currently enjoying.

Ngl I'm kind of tired of this notion that OWLs need to 'stop being so cautious', although I can acknowledge that 'if you look for hate you'll find it' it is also true that lesbians that have been out of the closet for over 10 years know better than anyone how much the world has changed, they more often than not have more experience and might very well more easily scope a certain environment. Yes, the discomfort of the elders are at times a necessary sacrifice for political progress (think AIDS crisis), but that is hardly the case here. I can appreciate that our wonderful world of GL oftentimes acts as a refuge, it makes sense that we choose to portray a rather idealised overtly accepting environment, but it just doesn't feel very consistent or well-constructed when lesbophobia and sexism are well established in this universe. Hiroko is right, more people today follow the trend thinking "in this day and age we should be tolerant" but most people like that really don't care to show much support beyond patting themselves on the back for not repeating the words of their parents, thinking they've fixed the world - although it is better than before - it's still superficial isn't it? Even if we ignore how blatantly disrespectful it is to out someone at work that has put conscious effort into staying closeted under ANY circumstance... Is it truly irrational for Hiroko to be cautious?

I am, I'm downloading it from furritsubs. Google the name, you'll land on the wordpress and find it in recent projects, download the raws and the subs, if your device does not support .ass subtitles you can find free converters to .srt, just google ".ass to .srt converter" 💕💕💕

Though the writing (particularly the characterisation and humour) still feels like it somewhat lags at times, the acting is so excellent, this really is among the best Thai GL currently out there!

I really had to bite the bullet during the first few episodes to get through Song Yi (Liu Yuru) staring off into the void, blinking her big eyes and reciting the script whenever she was on screen but she got much better once she could embrace a cool character more suitable to her age after episode 4.
