I wish the drama used a different way for Chu Zhao to figure out He Yan’s gender. The sword dance goes directly against a novel sub-plot where our FL doesn’t know how to put on makeup and is also somewhat insecure about not having any feminine (for the time) skills to show off. It’s even going to be a part of the drama because we see ML drawing her brows in a teaser. If they had shown her getting pulled by somebody else who dresses her up and puts on makeup for her in the brothel, maybe I would have felt otherwise.

does she ever become a general who leads fully as herself, without hiding or covering up her true personality,…
Yes

"The blind aren't all the same. With my capabilities, I'll surely become the most formidable blind person."…
Did I miss an expression change or did Xiao Jue not react to it at all? I was hoping they’ll go into a small flashback there. He didn’t know the lady he saved was He Yan / He Rufei so it was safe for him to recognise his own words quoted to him, a slight surprise maybe.

It is my favourite aspect of their relationship. She’s being pampered like she never was before. I wonder how…
Exactly! and I want to see their faces when she fights Ding Yi and He Rufan later. Even the war arcs. She’ll be as ruthless as they want her to be then.

Shen Wan is a personal favourite too. For me, being strong and powerful doesn’t mean the FL has to brood and be cooking up revenge all the time. They can remain themselves - kind, happy and helpful, and still look out for their interests. I don’t see how that gets equated to childish behaviour.

Haters are bitter about He Yan's childlike act towards Xiao Jue, and here I am...LET HER BE!!! No one ever spoiled…
It is my favourite aspect of their relationship. She’s being pampered like she never was before. I wonder how they’ll react upon reading the extra chapters. She never got to live her life or have a family or be a child. Now that she has a chance and the ML is willing to give her all that, why wouldn’t she grab it with both hands?

Not enjoying this as much as I would have thought . It is just so out of bounds unrealistic. and I am not even…
FL remembers her death after killing the wolf, saying they’re one and the same. Used and abandoned. She immediately places Ding Yi’s identity as her murderer and follows him as soon as the chance arises. She remembers the words of her brother while joining the army, wanting to prove him wrong and find a means to seek justice. But she will always be He Yan first, general second, and vengeful He Rufei third. Her revenge will come but it’ll also be surrounded by a chance at her living her life, this time without restrictions. If they follow the novel, you’ll also see her PTSD.

I don’t quite understand people’s complaints about the FL’s personality. Firstly, that’s the character…
Secondly, if you were suppressed your entire life, punished for showing any emotions (her father beating her with a stick), not allowed to mingle with her peers or family (her mother not meeting her despite wanting to, not having friends, hid behind a mask) and you were finally given a second chance at life, this time in your own name, would you not also try to live your life fully? As uninhibited as possible? She is driven by justice instead of revenge. She’s shown reminiscing the moment of her death, she’s reminded of her brother’s words about her achievements being unworthy, mentioning lying in the midst of corpses. She switches between smiles to introspective face within seconds. Clearly the bubbly nature isn’t all there is to her, a smart general lies underneath. Wait for her revenge to unfold, the “general” we wish to see will surely be in the forefront over this happy fresh recruit persona.

I don’t quite understand people’s complaints about the FL’s personality. Firstly, that’s the character draft from the novel and the director and actor are just following it. More as a spoiler below.

Could i know when and how Xiao Jue finds out He Yan was He Rufei in disguise? And if HY gets back the sword?
He finds out pretty later, after around 200+ chapters. Given the rebirth trope in the book, it was difficult to explain without sounding out of your mind lol. The sword is taken by He Rufei in the novel, not Xiao Jue and the way He Yan reclaimed it was one of my favourite moments in the novel. I expect it to be equally iconic and emotional here when Xiao Jue gives it back to her.

why does the Father of the FL hate her?
He’s selfish and cares more about the family’s (his own, especially) merit over all else. He doesn’t care for the FL and uses her when necessary.

The wolves had been distrubed and wouldn’t stop chasing them unless somebody stayed back to distract the wolves.
It’s a tad better in the novel. Xiao Jue kills the remaining three wolves to ensure they’re not followed back to the camp. The wolves are after them because their cubs were disturbed and one was killed by the three team members who go into the forbidden area. He Yan had killed their pack leader to distract the wolves and allow the team to leave. I have to allow suspention of disbelief because I’m blaming the censor related editing for certain unexplained scenes. You’re right to question it because as a standalone, it doesn’t make much sense.

Wolves are faster than horses. If any of the wolves gnawed at the horse’s hooves, neither of them would survive against a pack. If she sent away Wang Ba, a chance remained of him coming back with help. The teammate threw He Yan under the bus, blamed her to save himself. The other two stayed back initially because he also freed their horses and they, along with Wang Ba, reached the garracks later than the traitor and found the traitor lying about He Yan. That’s why he was executed.

We’ve reached from commander to master. Soon we’ll go from master to father. 😂
And then a whole circle back to father when he pampers her same as their daughter and gifts He Yan everything same as he buys for their daughter. 🙈

If the drama goes viral enough, can the makers release edited scenes as extra material? It’s evident they had to rush through the initial episodes and it had an impact on certain moments not being as coherent.

I wish we had just one more episode of He Yan struggling in the army. The gain is not as sweet if the climb wasn’t hard enough. It’s consistent with a healing body that was always her own and I understand the censorship caused some scenes to be cut. It’s only that the initial arc was a personal favourite so I wish we got it in full.
