Huge fan of the cast but not a fan of all the changes they've made to the story. Particularly the fact that they've made the villain a woman.
In all the adaptations of this story, one of the best things about the legend of Mulan is that it's about a woman who excels in a traditionally male field and defeats her male enemies with her own intelligence and abilities.
By making the main villain a woman instead, that takes away the central triumph of the story and the message to girls that they can do anything - even beat the boys at their "own" game.
(That said I like that the idea of having more female roles elsewhere in the story - like the fact that they've given Mulan a sister).
Just started putting it together yesterday actually! Because I realized Kimi Wa Petto didn't fit neatly into my…
Thanks, I forgot about Heirs. I haven't watched Birth of a Beauty yet and I only watched a few episodes of Waikiki and INK so I don't think I'll include them.
If any of the characters actually found happiness, that would have been a major change in the way the drama was…
@James Bond, I agree that if the story up to the last episode was written the same way (with KTW being the person who killed KL and covered it up) and then KTW and GHR had gotten a happy ending, that would make no sense.
But the reveal didn't have to happen that way. There are a bunch of different ways they could've written it (with someone else as the killer, with more contextual justification for KTW's actions - e.g. self defence, etc.).
As its written, GHR and KTW make a lot of bad choices (especially KTW), and they suffer because of those choices. That makes sense, but it's not satisfying for the viewers. I'm disappointed in the finale because it's very easy to see how it could have been written slightly differently (and still true to the themes of the earlier episodes) to be very satisfying.
It felt like a different person wrote the finale? GHR crying and saying "you should've killed me instead" seemed very out of character, and I can't imagine a less satisfying ending for all of the characters. Writers, if you really can't stand to let your characters find happiness in the end, at least give the viewers a satisfying reason to justify their suffering.
I'm going to do my best to scrub the last episode from my brain. Very disappointing.
Does anyone know which city this is set in / filmed in? It doesn't look like Beijing or Shanghai and they've mentioned visits to Hong Kong and Macau, so maybe Guangzhou?
It's tagged as a romance but the description says she gives up her love. I'm trying to decide whether or not to watch this, because I pretty much only watch romances. Can anyone tell me how much romance there is, and if this is a tragedy or not?
I'm sorry for being negative, but did Nao become more annoying or did my tolerance for her personality drop? I liked the first season but I could barely get through half of the first episode this time around before I had to drop it??
Mixed / bittersweet. I found it sad and frustrating, but there were parts that were sort of happy.
Glad you liked it. I haven't heard of that one before, but I checked the MDL page and someone said it's a bit similar to coffee prince? I've added it to my PTW list :)

I see you're watching LoveO2O. That's one of my favourites even though the FL is quite shy when it comes to romance because the leads are very trusting and supportive towards each other, which I found very satisfying.
I also see you have Healer and I Hear Your Voice in your to-watch list. I'd definitely recommend both.
One drama not on your list that's fairly short (under 20 hours) with some angst and a satisfying couple (imo) that you can try is Live Up to Your Name.
Okay that ending just... I don't know how to feel? I'm glad it wasn't a blood bath, but one murderer gets visited by all his friends, and two mass murderers go free??

Just a warning, this is fairly spoilery. I found most of the drama to generally be unsatisfying. There are very few happy, satisfying moments, and in the end the main couple do not get to spend their lives together. The happiest parts are almost all dreams that don't come true.
They spend their lives still in love with each other, but apart from one another. The queen seems to lead a very empty life. Occasionally she makes him clothes and writes him letters. They are only reunited when the king is on his deathbed in old age. While that might be less dramatic than killing everyone, I still find it deeply unsatisfying, and it seemed like it wasn't entirely necessary. It was more convenient for his rule if they were not together, but it didn't seem absolutely necessary, which made it all the more unsatisfying.
Read a few comments about this being more about friendship and family love + the love triangle being frustrating. I enjoy pining and a good love triangle as much as the next romance junkie, but can anyone tell me if there's a good amount of satisfying romance? I'd hate to watch 40 episodes and come away feeling dissatisfied.
