Yes native speaker here! However, the Chinese novel can also be confusing at times. The author skims on details and excels at brevity compared to many others on JJWXC. It can be a bit difficult to fully understand what's going on.

Susu was hoodwinked into participating in a spiritual ceremony where she had to bath naked with Tantai Jin and pray for him. He made her swear that she would be loyal to him, read some scriptures, and beg for mercy. Note that during this time she was under a spell so not able to act according to her will. Later on the worm in her pocket actually neutralized the poison in the air, allowing Susu to regain her will and overpower TTJ. She asked him if he secretly liked her, and then tried to make him dress up and leave quietly with her. However, TTJ anticipated this and had planted archers to aim at the door and shot her. He wanted to find out if she would kill him. He then soaked her in "weak water" which allowed him to mind control her... and this led to the next set of events where she was sent away to kill Xiao Lin.
BTW I think I saw someone talking abt TTJ dressing up as a bride in the novel. It's also in the screenplay but they must have taken it out.
In the wrap video, there's a scene of TTJ rising in front of a tree in the same yellow costume he wore on the boat home. This probably means they skipped the wedding and went straight for the tree demon. Not surprising given potential censorship issues...

They consolidated the 3 Ye brothers into 2 brothers - basically one good and one bad. Eddy Geng plays the good brother who's a successful general and falls in love with Pianran. There's another brother, who's lazy, entitled and a bit of a bully, mostly for comedic relief.
In the drama, they changed it such that Xiao Lin becomes Sang You in the dream dimension.... and made it super clear Xiao Lin and Susu are more like siblings and their relationship is entirely platonic. Both Susu and TTJ only have one serious love interest, each other.
After watching A Dream of Splendor, I really hope TTOETM production team can follow ADOS not using too much filter…
I'm less concerned abt filter and more concerned about cinematography and lighting, just based on the director's track record.
(It's not Huanyu so we don't have to worry about the yellow filter and not the director of ATWIL/HYX so we don't have to worry about overexposure/over-saturation)
The director is pretty old school wuxia background. If you look at General and I there are lots of extreme close-up, low-angle, or shaking camera shots - all feel pretty "rough" and manly. (He does specialize in "manly" topics and male-character dominated dramas.)
In comparison, I think people liked AoL so much essentially because the director is very good at making things pretty - long establishment shots, beauty light for all the actors etc

It was originally 长月无烬 (Long Moon without Jin/Ember), which is the source novel's publication name, came up by fans of the novel.
In terms of its meaning: 长(Long) 月 (Moon) connects to the novel in a few different ways: Tantai Jin's connection to the moon tribe (夷月族), the shape of Susu's weapon, etc. 无 (Without) 烬 (Jin) is a pun on 无尽, which means "endless", so it's a double entente: (1) a bad ending without Tantai Jin , and (2) imagery of a long endless moon, reflected in a sea, perhaps the scene where TTJ searches for Susu in the spiritual realm. I'm sure fans who came up with this will have a more thorough explanation.
They then inexplicably changed it to 长月烬明 after filming began but before the booting ceremony. Some fans say it means Jin is shining brightly or the source of light/goodness (what Amy says). My own interpretation is that after LYX's accident/delay, Otter probably got superstitious over losing its star... because it's not the most auspicious name. They probably got some fengshui master to rename, hence when LYX entered production, the drama's name went from "no Jin" to "shining Jin". But sadly this means some of the double meaning is lost and the drama no longer shares the novel's name.

Tantai is a Chinese surname based on a location in Jiangsu that's kind of gone less prevalent. Don't think there's any specific meaning to it, other than the author liked how it sounded.
