WHAT??????? Prime Spot for HYX, you are not clowning here are u??? 😂😂🤡🤡🤡BTW if Xianxia must be…
I think that's why the screenplay already toned down the character a bit. Probably can get away with it by framing this as a growth journey from bad to good... but you never know.

I think it's fine if it's part of the character, like showing sickness or injuries. I think the point here is to stop unrealistic or unnatural standards of beauty

Sorry a third response to your Q about HYX's slot. It was always slated for 2021 Summer if it was allowed to come out. If you look at 10c's line-up last year, you will see they have Xianxia's planned throughout the year except the summer, where they only had You Are My Glory.

Here's the NRTA conference summary in Chinese:
http://www.takungpao.com/news/232108/2022/0706/739142.html

Essentially, the general guidance is...

1) Period dramas: all artistic details (sets, costumes, accessories, makeup) need to be authentically Chinese and should not borrow elements from foreign cultures - fair enough

2) Beauty standards: Stop unhealthy levels of plastic surgery, too much make-up, blurring filters, sissy aesthetics - also fair enough, no one really knows what sissy means. it's definitely not just about men looking feminine, but the overall idea of over-packaging actors such that they don't look real anymore

3) Casting: Choose actors based on talent, artistic integrity, and fit for the role instead of liulang (traffic) - giving more people opportunities rather than concentrating all the earnings from a few stars.

4) Screenplays: Focus on serious/deep themes and original stories that are realistic and positive... as opposed to pure focus on entertainment that promote bad behaviors

I think for TTEOTM the biggest risk is 4 because all the xianxia's are essentially fantasies and entertainment compared to, say, a drama about a voluntary rescue organization. There are lots of xianxia's coming up and at some point they will say hold my beer this needs to slow down.

All upcoming costume dramas are being re-reviewed right now for cultural appropriation (e.g. incorporating a Japanese-style bow in a Chinese costume). Dramas will have to fix these inaccuracies (e.g. edit them out, use CGI) before being allowed to air. It doesn't mean every drama gets a second chance. It just means more dramas will get flagged for issues. You can google the Legendary Life of Queen Lau to read about the controversy the prompted this reaction.

BTW, based on my understanding, there are many layers of reviews beyond the one that's published online. Even dramas with a permit can be held back from airing, e.g. with new NRTA directives/guidelines, issues with the actors etc
On Till the End of the Moon Jul 18, 2022
Let's hope this drama actually airs in Q1 2023 (ideally Jan/Feb).

Getting a bit worried because lots of xianxia are delayed due to the re-review of costumes. Everything seems to be coming out later than expected.

Immortal Samsara will supposedly air tonight, but was supposed to air back in June - it's super long so will probably go until late Aug, early Sep. Then there's Love When the Stars Fall which will take up Sep-Oct. This means Legend of Anle will be more like Nov-Dec. There's also Back from the Brink (from Immortality's director), which wrapped in Dec 2021... probably also competing for the Dec-Jan slot. That being said I do believe Youku will prioritize TTOETM over BFTB for the CNY slot.

The CNY slot has a fantastic track record and next best compared to the summer slot - in the past 5+ years, 1-2 top 5 dramas have been around CNY. Post CNY: Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (2017), Joy of Life (2018). Pre CNY: Story of Minglan (2018), My Sunshine (2016), I Will Find You A Better Home (2020)

(Crazy I'm looking at Tencent 2021 line up, which had a black hole sized gap of xianxia/costume dramas during the summer... then I realized it was the prime spot reserved for Immortality...)

well to say we are waiting for like 2 years now.......
Wouldn't say this is purely due to homophobia. More because dangai is too hot as a genre and now associated with a lot of toxic internet behavior in China.

Also I don't think there's much tencent can do. It probably wants to release it more than anyone else...

Haha gotta move all the HYX watchers over...
I actually think of the two dramas a bit like twins. Beyond sharing the same team, they also have a lot of common themes and fantastical elements
On Till the End of the Moon Jul 12, 2022
TTEOTM is now #6 in Datawin's upcoming drama ranking for the last 12 months. Pretty high up considering it only wrapped 3 months ago!

The top 5 are: Immortal Samsara, The Longest Promise, Love Like the Galaxy, Legend of Anle, In Spite of the Strong Wind - all wrapped 6-16 months ago, and many about to air

Guys, can you please explain one thing to me? I wonder for a long time why the novel has more than one title.…
They changed the name of the TV adaptation a few times. This is actually quite common in Chinese entertainment - there are many working titles during the production phase.

The exact translation of the original screenplay title is "who in the world [other than you] deserves to wear white" which is a metaphor for someone who is honorable and pure. It's part of an ancient poem which also features in the novel.

It then evolved into the more concise Hao [white] Yi [clothing] Xing [walk]. Xing has become a very popular character to use in titles, e.g. Snow Sword Stride (雪中悍刀行), The Long Ballad (长歌行) etc

The only important thing at this point is saying these 100 times. Please all the cast in TTOETM: Have you & all…
Yeah hoping nothing will happen to BL and LYX on this. They should be low risk because BL works for a large company that gets a big cut of her earnings and LYX just doesn't seem like the greedy type. The biggest risk is they get screwed over by their business people.

I know people are always like, "why can't they just pay their damn taxes", but it's not so simple when your company is handling and signing all your very complex business contracts - sometimes you're paid a salary, sometimes profit share, and various people take a cut out of your earnings - AND to facilitate this, they've set up various entities in order to be tax efficient. This is not illegal. Every single corporate in the world does this. However, there's a massive grey area in tax evasion... and with a government increasingly on a crack-down mode, you might get in trouble even if everything you did is technically legal. According to some melon, DL is still saying that there are people who went way further than he did, and honestly I'm not surprised if that's true.

These accounting practices are complicated even for business people, let alone actors who mostly went to art school and had a limited education. This industry is about trust and they have to rely on professionals. I highly suspect in many of these tax evasion cases, they just got bad advice that "this is fine, everyone does it" (as opposed to, let me take a massive risk on my career and be humiliated publicly). When this happens, I suppose I put the fault 80% with the business managers and 20% with the actor (for associating with people who are more aggressive financially.)

Sorry this is a long winded way for me to say, let's hope their business managers are trustworthy, competent, and not greedy... because it's not always up to them.

I read somewhere that this is gonna air on 31st Dec 2022...
I think highly likely it'll release this year because they'll want to capitalize on 7 years after My Sunshine. Also it should pass the censors really easily if it hasn't already.

These days the platforms don't really share release dates anyway, so no news doesn't mean no show. They can just drop suddenly. My guess is sometime in late Sep or Oct. This is unlikely to be a massive hit, so they won't want it competing against the summer lineup.

It's from this past week, very recent. Not sure if cross-dressing would count if it's something that comes out of the plot vs. part of the character, but I suppose everyone will be even more careful now
