? Why does Jun Woo remind me of Eun Woo's character in My ID is Gangnam Beauty- but like more in a talkative mood. Kyeong Seok never talked and was very out of it most of the time.

... Jun Woo is savage af.

Damn. TVN gave this drama the budget it deserved. Bringing out the big guns.

ALSO, the instrumental gives me a lot of 500 Days of Summer vibes. Similar types of contrasting instruments that are played in a similar manner. It creates a confusing sound to the viewer, which adds curiosity to watch further.

Anyone know the song playing in the cafe when Gi Seuk and Ji Ho had their squabble ? Couldn’t stop thinking that I knew it from somewhere... sounded a little like a Maroon 5 song, yet I’ve listened to every song of theirs,

...asking for a friend.

I've never read/watched either but based on your article, The Handmaiden's Tale doesn't seem to be too different…
Really? That’s so interesting ! Injustice for woman seems to be a worldwide problem, huh?

This has definitely been one of my favorite articles in the last few months. Personally, I really enjoy The Handmaid's…
OCN has gone places that no other dramas have gone before. Having writers that can take this idea and form it into a way that can resonate with Koreans- can make this drama more relevant to today’s issues and not just going against the “mushy gushy” drama tropes that Korea has been pushing out over time. This drama can create some buzz around Korean actresses and actors, such as how Elizabeth Moss became more noticed and awarded for her portrayal.

since when fiction is considered culture lol?
Oh goodness. You again. Peele is seen as a culture icon in America, and a true screenwriter. His writing is beloved and has made great jabs at how African Americans are represented in today's media and how he is changing the present and future of American cinema.

Fiction, done in a certain fashion- can create a culture. It's a subculture- such as Asian Drama watchers. This site is considered a site intended for the subculture. A subculture is a set derived from a culture that branches off.

Putting my two cents in:
I have recently written an article about a fairly scandalous American made series (and franchise) as well. For Asian viewers- their opinions are very mixed. Asian drama has stayed the same over the years and people like the innocence of fluffy dramas. A hint of violence they are not used to seeing on their TV screen and culture shock can be quite difficult to swallow. Every culture has their own limits that they set and try not to cross.

This movie is done by someone that wanted to make a statement as an African American male born and raised in America. I see, just by the description - that he has motifs of American politics as well. To make such a remake, a lot of aspects have to be changed to fit the aforementioned comment below me. "All Asians look the same." In that regard, there is a lot of exploration with the theme and where they can expand upon it.

Korea CAN create these remakes- as often series like the one I wrote about and this movie (along with Peele's other famous works) have so much moving storylines and side plots where they can really create into something beautiful- and not tamper with culture crashes.

what makes me slightly uncomfortable is the fact that even a watered down version of this could never air on S.K…
Oh! The new adaptation of the book on HULU is very watered down. I’m sure that Korean tv would NEVER include the graphic parts. There is a lot more that they can work with that don’t revolve or focus around the handmaids. Such as econowoman, eyes, and Martha’s that can easily be just as entertaining and not as vulgar. Flashbacks are done wonderfully in this drama, as I said in a couple other posts.

I didn’t know the demographic - and I am sorry for any confusion that has occurred. If you want me too, I can delete that portion or make it entirely in spoiler? This ran through a couple editors and maybe I can give you their names so that you can inform them to keep a look out if anything like this comes up in the future.

My apologies. I tend to write towards more adult and more educational rather than emotional at times.

y'know, i wrote out this long comment, but then i deleted it bc i just decided i don't have the mental energy…
Thank you! I really appreciate it, I’m a writer and college student irl getting my Bachelors soon, so anything I have the time to write does have some significance and is fact checked.

From what I have seen of the series, they are going off of the book for the 3rd season. She is possibly going to overthrow the government and create a new rebellion.

I am not one of those Asian drama fans to take things too out of context. I only thought of making this post to educate how this drama might or might not be suitable for the Kdrama world- in a romantic sense and in a political sense, Do has a lot of the same mannerisms as Nick and they are like drama twins. I couldn’t stop thinking of who would play who if Korea was daring enough. In my free time, I watch 50 percent Korean dramas, and 50 percent American ones.

Symbolism, motifs, and hidden messages are apparent in this show, and as someone who wants to write for tv and writes essay upon essay of movie meanings- I think others would be interested to entertain the idea a little. It’s Korea, they wouldn’t show graphic things ( hanging and sex ), but the mother and daughter bond and love stories in this drama, with added characters that have multiple personalities to them- can be altered to create a pretty cool adaptation. June’s story is so beautiful, and she is a brilliant character.

This article is now unpublished and can't be seen on the main page. I'm sorry due to all the negativity that I have caused.

You don’t have to be so mean with the comments compared to how much work I’ve spent writing this.

This show includes a powerful main character that evokes change... but okay? Whatever.

The show is a LOT more watered down. It barely has any sex scenes, and isn't graphic. Even though everyone commenting thinks it's strictly about sex- there's a lot to it that isn't the book. After watching the series, the book helps with explaining certain things that don't make as much sense.

The flashbacks are very lovely as well- so if you love flashbacks, you'll love this.

What an excellently written article and a uniquely original concept. I have been eyeing the book and the season…
Thank you so much. This is such a well written book with so much symbolic realism of what Americans (and other Democratic countries) future could become. The show has so many elements that are in today's politics- and has a wonderful LGBTQ+ cast. I highly recommend streaming it. Elizabeth Moss is a fantastic actress!

There are so many... other components of the story? I really think you should try and understand other points of view hun, just for your own safety in the future. Not everyone is going to agree with you.
June is not helpless. She is a beacon of hope, is strong and resilient. In my opinion as a writer, she is written beautifully. She is doing everything in the power to keep her new baby safe from the world she doesn't want it to grow up in. Please educate yourself on the show before commenting things that have nothing to do with the plot.
