@Lullina: When a Patriarch of the Light went rogue and instigated the massacre of an entire house hold, the legislature obviously has to take some action.
@Lullina: I mean the crow at 15 mins into EP4 - "Why is it still here?" - throw stone. The Peafowl statue has not been explained in the drama yet (will be later) Baby - not everything is explained yet but you are on the right track ;)
On Epi 28: The level of deceiving in this drama is on an epic level... I can't see a happy ending for the MCs…
Glad you like it, Barcelo Girl :D When you reached the final episode, I have an Eng-subbed version which should made the ending clearer. You can watch my version of EP36 online or download it from here: https://openload.co/f/ttzyG8JbEls I created it from my 4K UHD copy but due to restriction of the free Openload account, I had to lower the resolution down to 1080p HD
Personally I also found that handling the timing and synchronization of subtitle properly can take as much time as translating the dialogue from Chinese to English. This process usually involved matching the subtitles to the first frame of a shot for a scene. Since most English readers are comfortable with reading speed of less than 200 words per minutes, I would also need to pace the subtitles, so they don't disappear from the screen too quickly. Sometimes I would need to rework a translation so that the subtitles do not 'straddle' scene changes. When you need do this 400 or more times per episode, these added to the time needed to prepare the subs.
Hi lenje, it is indeed the Kingdom of Tang in the drama. It is reflected also in the way the monarchs are addressed…
@Lullina03: Even more than lenje, the China government do not wish people to confuse the historical Tang dynasty Empire of planet Earth to the Kingdom of Tang in another world :D
@Itinerant: Thanks for delurking to comment :) Advocating for this drama, I should said Leon's character didn't expect to end up being King - originally he hoped to become one of Fuzi's student and could have been the 6th brother. Alternatively if wasn't the King he would have taken a bigger role in the capacity of his hidden identity, which would be revealed in EP7.
The female clothing, particularly the ladies of the court, doesn't seem to follow what is most popularly known…
Hi lenje, it is indeed the Kingdom of Tang in the drama. It is reflected also in the way the monarchs are addressed as King and Queen. I have just submitted edits to the Cast info here to clarify this. Just bear in mind that other subtitle groups might want to stick with the 'Empire' translation if they follow the novel convention.

Hi Karin, I just checked and as it turned out, the entire 36 episodes option for TDT is only available for VIP members. Viewers watching for 'free' will only get 6 episodes per week. So I think iqiyi is definitely marketing this option as a strategy, at least for certain dramas.
This is the fastest airing drama that I have ever encountered. Started airing in iqiyi.com on Oct 29, 2018 and…
That's because it know it would face stiff competition against other drama series released in the same time from Tencent and Youku if it follow the normal schedule. Also if your interpretation of the ending is correct, potential backlash from viewers if they had follow it for weeks (in a normal schedule) when they could have choose a different drama, would not benefit iqiyi.
https://youtu.be/IVlL744G6Ck (720p raw full episode - 40mins+) This is the full version of the Episode 0 (Prologue) special It tells of events in 1st Year of Revelation Calendar. Chronologically this events take place after narration in Episode1 and before the beginning at frontier (15th year) in Episode 1. These scenes were now officially issued after they were cut from the main drama - presumably they're edited to comply with China censorship laws. Viewers can think of this as a part of the Ever Night Extended Cut. If you are new to this series, you can watch this before EP1 or at any point after. PS: The prologue should clarified: 1. What offense did Wei Guang Ming commit to be incarcerated in EP1. 2. Ning Que's reaction to the crow in EP4. 3. A character's behavior in EP11 and EP12 (he has quite a bit of fight scenes in EP0 prologue).
I hope the English subs come soon. I watched a little bit of ep 1. It seems interesting so far. Would anyone recommend…
Regarding 1ofakind's question on the novel: It is slower pace than the drama. The English translation (less than half of novel done) do not read as smoothly or has the brevity of the original text but many people do like them well enough. It's a serialized web novel and I think for people concern about length (of these type of work) before they even checked out 50 chapters on their own probably will give up the book long before the end :p

I am not sure how much progress has been made on Eng subs for Ever Night. Most likely, because of the high quality and growing interest of this drama, it shouldn't be too a long wait for those who need them to get the first few episodes subbed. The textual complexity of the dialogue here is comparable to other recent fantasy C-dramas. While waiting for the subtitle teams to complete their work I think I can sub one episode, however I don't want to duplicate their efforts[*], so I will pick episode 7 to sub and hopefully it will be ready by the time earlier episodes are also subbed by others.
[*] Duplication of work can be quite wasteful as I personally learnt - when I finished my subs for Episode 36 of Bloody Romance, other groups already completed theirs. To date only less than 30 people made use of my version. It's fortunate that I love that drama very much so it doesn't matter ;)
My impression after 10 episodes and 2 bottles of cider [1] ;) I'm happy with the drama adaptation so far. Obviously not every book fan would feel the same [2]. Overall the pacing of the drama is faster than the novel and the multiple protagonist narrative start immediately. Personally I don't find this a problem and thought it might help new viewers unfamiliar with the story. Even though some of the characters' traits are changed I do think the screen characters are quite lively as portrayed by the massive cast (acting performances do varied). As in the novel, each named character, no matter how small their roles, have their own distinct personality and back-stories. These and the fact that even small parts have their roles to play in later seasons make this quite a rarity among very long Chinese fantasy drama series. I watched all the episodes on 1080p HD which does the cinematography and action scenes justice. Sound is OK - if you can't tell a sword's position from the whoosh sound as it went past near one ear during action scenes, you're probably watching a re-uploaded reduced quality version (as reference use HD version play normally on QQLive to compare). I do like the BGM music and some of the songs.
[1] I didn't have any wine, but I thought it was funny because I just finished the 2nd bottle when I reached the 'grading the test' scene in episode 9. [2] I do think that some book fans' more extreme comments are as picky as 3rd Sister in the same scene.

Wait, Listening Snow Tower will also be released this November???
@lenje and Lullina: Actually I was referring to her role in the drama Royal Highness. It's also a contest between two famous male novelist (Mao Ni and Yue Guan) each with 3 works adapted into dramas, both with one prior release, one upcoming in November and one to be released next year.
Lullina, the new translation used a different chapter numbering from the original. Vol 1 is 194 + Prologue = 195 chapters and Vol 2 is 297 chapters. So the translation is currently at beginning of vol 3. The full novel is 6 volumes.
The Peafowl statue has not been explained in the drama yet (will be later)
Baby - not everything is explained yet but you are on the right track ;)

My experience is about the same, since obviously we can't spend all day doing this :p
