the self flagellation of slapping himself was just to assuage his guilt.
and i do blame him. he's very aware that his sister is greedy and petty. he knows his wife is naive. he should have set boundaries against his sister, she was going over the line. the sister was not doing it for his benefit. if he really cannot go against his sister, the least he can do is keep his wife company and comfort her. even if she was not pregnant.

and sorry if i am ranting.
i was really disappointed with his character.
