7.5/10 - It was actually a well made movie that actually covers deeply about a whole bunch of characters (not just the leads) and their respective lives where it didnt feel rushed, fast or draggy. I actually surprised that this movie is only 2 hours despite the many things that it covers so heads up to the director, writer and editor for making it possible. This is how movie should be done imo.
However, while I liked the first half of the movie, the second half was difficult to watch with constant shoving down to our face about the supposedly ''REAL LIFE'' where none of the characters deserved to be happy when in the real world, people actually moves on and found their own happiness despite the many trials and tribulations that they may face in life. All of the tragic ends for all the characters kinda make the story goes to pretentious territories imo.
But despite all of that, it is still a well made movie and it deserved a 7.5 despite the many plots that I didnt agree on esp the bits on Zheng Wei's insistence that its all in the past (why? you cant go back to the past but you certainly can make a bright future for yourself) or her shoving the suicidal girl and called it love to Lin Jing or Ruan Guan died for a worthless guy. I wish none of that subplot in the movie tbh..

It was an open ending that the director purposely left for us to decide on ourselves.
But seeing that: 1) Zheng Wei admitted to Lin Jing that she is still in fact in love with Xiao Zheng at the restaurant. 2) Xiao Zheng came back from the US to win her over. 3) Xiao Zheng named his firm 'Wei Guan World' which is after him and Zhang Kai's loves of their lives; Zheng WEI & Ruan GUAN. 4) Zheng Wei dumped Lin Jing. 5) Xiao Zheng's propose story with the dolphin at the end. 6) Both of them are singles at the end.
It seemed that the story kinda incline for a happy ending for the 2 of them. At least that is what I believe (lol) after so much negativity for all the characters by the time the drama ended. :P

In the end, did he killed all of his guardians? Because they seemed to have suffer internally when he broke the artifact. And he continue to reign the kingdom after walking through the light, right? Since, his achievements in the later years was narrated before the drama ends. Then, what is the light? And why he walked to it? Secret Forest would always be special to me tbh. First, it is because of the intelligent script and second, the bad guy is actually the real hero of the story (Robin Hood style of hero). I love it when both the good and bad guys are extremely intelligent.

When I first watch Jdramas (eon years ago), I had a hella good times enjoying the revelation for dramas like Kindaichi (Tsuyo's version) since the culprit is always the one who we least suspected the most (the most innocent). The Kindaichi manga is the same as well. It will start with lots of characters with very suspicious behaviours that it made you dying inside to wait for the next series for the revelation. And true enough, the real culprit is always the least suspecting thus it made a great revelation. ^^
I think the last time that I truly didn't suspect the culprit when I watch dramas/tv shows is Mr. Robot. The 1st season finale was so surprising that I couldn't believe the revelation lol (yes, it was very well done since I cant predict it like AT ALL). Then it suddenly comes like a perfect puzzle on why everything is very weird from the beginning lol! I think smart writer is the one who gives hints but very small and insignificant hints that you tend to dismiss it. Then when they gives you the revelation, it hits you right in the head since all those small hints makes sense at the end of the day.

For me, Tunnel is really a missed opportunity. I really cant enjoy the drama because it is full of dumb characters who made really questionable decisions despite they are supposed to be professional. :( I dropped the drama at the 10th episode when my brain cells cant tolerate it any longer.
BTW, I always knew the autopsy guy is the real mastermind because he is very suspicious but I cant remember they are supposed to be 2 bad guys? Who is the one ' that I recognised him from his voice after just one sentence.'? Which actor play him? Sorry, I dont remember this at all.

This drama is complicated so it is understandable if you may missing the point and couldnt see how all the cases are interconnected with each other. It goes to micro-level kind of detail and you may missed if you are not alert enough. The leads are highly intelligent that you wont question his actions since all his moves are very calculated. This drama is the only drama which you cannot pinpoint any plot holes or inconsistencies since the writer covers everything -- right from the leads to all the small characters. That is why the script was selected as the best script for Kdrama in year 2018.
For me this is better than Signal!I found Signal to be overrated anyway.
It is definitely better than Signal if you look at script technicality. Those who actually study writing will without a doubt chose Secret Forest as a better script in every single aspect.
Just finished CLOY and currently contemplating if I should rewatch this. IMO, CLOY has a better storyline but…
This story like is 100 times better than CLOY storyline imo. CLOY has generic plot for romantic comedy while this one was creative, unpredictable, think out of the box, nerve-wrecking and just awesome in a whole level -- even if you dont like video games.
