I feel the same that he cares. I know he loves her. I am just saying he will not admit it to himself. His issue is that he must have control of his emotions. He is logical. I understand and agree with what you are saying. I really do but there is something else going on with Luan Nian and it is the reason she leaves. It is the reason she feels ashamed of the last 6 years. Yesterday, as I rewatched ep 5, I saw something that didn't make sense and I kept watching it. I was conflicted because his actions are caring.
The fact that she asked for secrecy made me believe it was her fault it was a secret. But the more I watch, I see there is more to it. I feel he was happy to have it that way. He does not mix personal life with work. Maybe you misunderstood me. I am not against him. But I feel he closed her out of his heart and she knows it. She doesn't want to ask him about the flowers because she doesn't feel it is her right. According to the agreement, they will end the relationship if either one finds someone else. No expectations other than that.

I am still rewatching. I am trying to understand him. In ep 5 I feel he went from manipulating her mind so that she would give in to her feelings for him and have sex with him but just as she gave in, he seemed to do a flip. Something changed in the way he told her she must now realize she cannot control it. I got the feeling he switched into a more physical sense than an emotional sense. He acts as if he is detached emotionally but he watches her and checks on her. I admit, I am emotionally attached because even as I watch him and wonder why he is controlling her this way without giving any of his heart to her, I feel my heart beating for him 💗😂🔥 I am so conflicted.

Listen, Luan Nian is my bias. I stated this days ago😂 He is a contradiction. He is logical. He wants to be in control. He will not admit to himself that he is losing control. Yes! He chased her. He seduced her. I feel seduced right along with her. He makes her breakfast. He takes care of her. But he will not give her his heart because it means losing control. This is the reason she stated that she has been in a shameful sinful relationship. Believe me when I tell you, my heart goes to him but I can feel bad for Tao too. I have a partial review up and I made changes under the relationship subheading many time. Luan Nian is in her head and she is addicted to him. But she is conflicted.
She doesn't communicate because she knows him. What would happen if she told him she was jealous because she thinks he gave the other girl flowers?

It is painful when one person in a relationship doesn't feel equal to the other especially when the other person is a control freak and will not admit even to himself that he has feelings of love. She will eventually reach her breaking point to where we saw her crying at the start of ep 1. I think there are other circumstances that led to her decision to leave.
I didn't read the novel, but maybe they were in a situationship for six years because they don't actually talk?…
I am conflicted. I love Luan Nian but I think he is contradictory. He wants to be in control so he doesn't allow himself to love her. He will only buy her gifts. She has feelings for him but thinks that if she stays with him, he will one day love her. But he will not even admit it to himself that he has feeling for her. I can see why the angst is coming. It is needed to break down his defense system.
