I don't know what to tell you but if you stop at the 12 min mark of ep 40 you will see a happy scene. You can also go to about the 16 mark where YZJ gets some good news and one of his goals is achieved. You can stop there. However, if you don't go on, you will miss some details and the beautiful way they both faced the truth of the inevitable together. As one who does not like open endings or SE, I don't regret watching it but I wish it had been different. When you get to the 16 min mark of ep 40 decide then if you want to go on. I can tell you that you will not see anything disturbing, but it is not happy either.

I am not sure if the ending was meant to show that if we persevere we can achieve our goals, but there are somethings that are out of our control. Maybe the ending was in keeping with the theme of female empowerment to show she can go on as woman alone, but it makes no sense why he had to die to show how strong she is on her own.
