I have this imaginary dark romance drama in my head about a host club, where the top host (who does in fact exploit his clients' feelings to get to the top) meets a woman who isn't interested in him as a host and he falls for her for real...after pretending to love her because he's a host and he lies automatically. And he'd be so used to fake love that he himself would have a hard time understanding his real feelings.
And I totally picture Lee Soo Hyuk as the host. <3

Guys I might need some advice about Suzy - what's her best role? For acting? I haven't actually watched her before so I tried Doona and gave up immediately (probably not her fault, more of a writing thing) and then tried Genie, Make a Wish which was better but I still got super bored and couldn't finish it. And since she was playing an emotionless character I still feel like I can't tell how good her acting is.... :P

I hope she's great. Because I hope this is great. Because LSH as main male lead. <3

I couldn't get anywhere in Penthouse because of screaming women, but KYD is adorable in To The Moon.

Oof, NO. I like the IDEA of this, but the execution was terrible.

1: housekeeper/FL's vibe was mommy-daughter the entire time, no romantic chemistry
2: people verbally pushing the idea of a romance that isn't there over and over (telling not showing=weak)
3: sabotaging the eligible man her own age (making his character suck later on when he was fine at first) is just a cheap way to reinforce the housekeeper as love interest

this could have been brilliant as a non-romance, esp if he were a middle aged gay man building a supportive friendship with Mei. stories about non-romantic relationships can also be lovely and meaningful.

or, make it a romance, but holy COW drop the "mothering" vibe of the housekeeper and try to get some romantic tension in there. and I know this is a cheap trick, but honestly - middle aged men can be very sexy too. get one of those. not this guy.

I 50% agree, 50% disagree. I felt some chemistry/ache, mostly in the first 10 episodes (those "pretend to be consummating" scenes worked, I thought). Since getting to the war camp, though, I agree with you that they aren't sizzling much anymore. Actually I think right after he saved her with magical naked medicine and then left to go hunt the Creep Prince who molested her in Lin'an (and nothing came of that, it got dropped and forgotten) - since then it hasn't been clicking as much as it did at first.

So there's an end credits scene on ep 28 and the princess is treating FL's injuries and she remarks on a fresh new bruise on her neck that is obviously a hickey. FL flashes back to sitting with ML by the river and kissing, but like - all we saw was some chaste lip pressing. No necking. Then again, apparently they were there all night. Is this meant to imply that Stuff Happened?

I'm used to Chinese shows being super vague about this, but I hate it when I can't even tell what is happening. :P

tl:dr version:
Some academics and bureaucrats got together and had a meeting and discussed why it wasn't okay for people to like what they like. They ordered the entertainment world to stop having fun and making money. Nobody actually stopped having fun or making money. Humans continued to admire Pretty Shiny Things as they have been doing for all of history.

And Pursuit of Jade was a really well made Cdrama. People who can only see face powder and not the FAR above average cinematography, direction, pacing, lighting, and just general film craft on display - well, those people only succeed is displaying their own ignorance.

What is with this boy and his shows getting ZERO distribution so I can't watch anything he's been in??? XP

Ahn Eun Jin aced it as a young Kim Mi Kyung. That was impressive.

And the 4th-wall-breaking jokes actually made me laugh.

But other than that, I got bored with all the mythical stuff. Too many lore elements getting handed out in tiny, spaced-out doses that felt like constant teasing. Not my jam.

And I liked the main leads' relationship well enough, it was fun in a lighthearted way, but I'm just not curious about the end or invested in seeing them work out. Quitting at a little over halfway.

I saw Go Ahead, and I took one look at the poster for this one and suspected it had missed the heart of the original. Where are the DADS? If you don't put the dads on the poster for your remake, you missed something. Also, although I find most C-dramas bloated and far too long, Go Ahead was a rare gem that needed all that time to develop, and I would be willing to bet that shortening it wouldn't do the story any favors in this case.

So I believe I would probably agree with you and I will gladly save my time for other things. :)

The color intensity was cranked up in the virtual world, compared to the real world. That's probably the main reason. And the dates all had a lot of makeup on.
