I cannot answer your question as I didn’t watch it yet, but I agree with you. some of the biggest masterpiece has heartwrenching ending, like “one and only”. as long as it fits the story am fine with bad ending.

my guess is the screenwriters wouldn’t put that much time on them and write their scene that way only to have their relationship go smooth. they definitely gonna have some hardship. at least the actor is good, I liked him in Make a Wish.
I wanna watch as episodes go but the trailer I saw kinda is making me anxious, that scene with fire where she fall and lose consciousness, and that scene where she dance smiling with 2mL! I hope the triangle and angst is not too intense later on!
the actress for ma nianyuan is not listed here. I really liked her acting in early episode 35 when she talked back to her mom. as much as I don’t like the character, that was good acting and made me understand where she come from here. but it’s no excuse for behaviour of course.

the slow burn and slow story is a style of the writer, gu man, most of her shows are like that. For 2ML, by the time you are at ep 30, she has truly moved on, and we didn’t see 2ML for quite a while at that point.
it’s not like princess royal where the 2ML takes over the story.
the ep you mentioned, you can see she truly is uncomfortable and goes away soon, it’s truly just the 2ML who can’t move on, but she did looong time ago. the stares here I interpreted it more as if she now recognized he is red flag and she is uncomfortable. the feelings themselves goes away it just time bit of time that’s normal
