lol she's just very materialistic and somewhat sexist as she prefers all the males in the family bcs they'll be passing the Cheng family name along. the girls in their view especially in the past viewed girls were no longer really seen as part of their family once they marry into another family, once they marry they are now part of that family. I think she doesn't even really care for yang yang and is ok-ish with her bcs her mom isn't niaoniao's mom. the grandmother changes her tune when she sees the betrothal gifts and the prospects of more recognition and wealth

It’s not exactly love that she feels for wei hao, she just thought this is what a relationship is. She’s more upset that her best friends would hide something as big as that from her. In the novel she was more so upset that someone she held dear as a best friend since birth who she did everything with is now interested in her new friend but doesn’t share that with her and felt like they were going behind her back to form a relationship instead of just telling her they like each other. It’s more so she’s just stubborn lol like we all get unreasonably stubborn about something which isn’t a big deal but we’re too prideful to admit.

It’s kind of a lot of things combined? It’s part misunderstanding bcs he doesn’t tell her his true background and she was led to believe by xi nie that he was in love w/yu weilan who is his step mom. But it’s more of him wanting motherly affection and trouble with moving on with the trauma of his childhood. Xi nie basically implied he’s only with her bcs she reminds him of weilan, in the novel she told wuyan your laugh is similar to weilan. Part is also nian qin having insecurities due to his eyes, he was given up to an orphanage bcs of his eyes and his family not being able to raise him when they were poor. Everyone he cared abt has left him in the end, so he has a thick skin on the outside and cold to strangers so he doesn’t have to experience another heartbreak. He never told her abt his family bcs his mom was essentially his family, he doesn’t get along with his dad and he doesn’t want anything to do with him. It would be opening up a wound he’s been trying to heal by pretending he’s unfeeling. He has always thought and worried she would also leave him bcs of his eyes and he knows what wuyan’s mom thinks of him. Her mom had objected to them being together due to his eyes and her thinking she would have a hard life being with him, one day when nian qin was going to take wuyan to meet his family she had to go back to her home town bcs she learned her father was seriously ill (her parents kept this from her so she accidentally learned from someone else). They got into a fight while she was packing bcs he misunderstood she was scared didn’t want to meet his family. Her father at the hospital told her to go back and makeup with nian qin, but that night nian qin’s dad who was also sick was admitted to the hospital also and wuyan saw weilan hugging nian qin and misunderstood. They got into another fight, she got drunk and that night wuyan’s dad died. Nian qin had gone to look for her to make up but he couldn’t answer her when she asked who would he save her or weilan if they were drowning. She said he never wanted to see him again and that’s how they broke up.

He’s visually impaired, he can see some light/shadows when something is working 3 feet of him. In the drama he’ll undergo surgery to recover his sight.
