I agree with others on how manipulative Ji Ho is in the end. They are trying to justify love as being sacred than marriage. This behavior is pushed by the left-wing lovers, utterly disruptive and destroys the beautiful meaning behind marriage. They could've proceeded with the marriage contract or changed it a bit but Ji Ho leaving him full well that he loves her was so disappointing. Even in the end after reconciliation she had the guts to still say love is important and I am not ready for marriage. Like what is wrong with marriage. why such a sacred bond being tarnished as manipulative, living by standards or respecting the in-laws only. And what is wrong in being respectful and meeting the in-laws doing the chores with them, isnt that a form of love? Unbelievable really.
I was expecting since the beginning for Ji Ho's character to reach heights in her career as well, but sadly her dream was to find love. This gives the notion that people shouldn't have lofty dreams, shouldn't dream big to which I disagree. Dreaming to be successful and getting married isn't bad but somehow this whole show wanted to just bully around.
They propose couple without marriage life where none of the parties wishes to be a responsible adult. They would rather breakup and go their ways or go in rebound mode and have new mates. This shows the lack of respect and utter disgust to carry the responsibility of other partner. I abhor the ending, seriously. Each character wished to not marry and just live their life as couples. Even the parents of ML are treated as trash, why? because they want something out of marriage. I do understand how some parents are fixed on having sons/daughters from the daughter-in-law but that could've been a topic which they should've discussed.
They could've shown that marriage can also be beautiful and love can spring about after marriage. Does this mean all arranged marriage are bound to fail? *If statistics any proof you can find that arranged marriages have lesser divorce rate than love marriages*.
The drama is really breathtaking. Wonderful cast and excellent acting makes it the perfect OSN alternative. After watching OSN I was craving for something similar and this drama gave me what I wanted except a little.
I would give thumbs up to Kang Pil-gu's child actor for displaying raw emotions and unfaltering dialogues. I really must say the dialogues for every cast were well written based on the personality they had.
Hwang Yong Shik was exactly like a puppy, his character was always straightforward and timid. I liked the fact that they didn't just mature the character rapidly for the sake of plot progress.
*Stop here if you intend to watch it, read after you are done watching*
Dong Baek character was really sad and scary, thinking that there are single mothers out there struggling through whatnot while everyone blames them and their kids for no reason whatsoever. The sad part is, our community even looks down on single mothers and bachelors marrying them (and vice versa/ single father marrying bachelor) is seen as a taboo. It is ridiculous when people act all might and haughty about how good and nice we should be to others and pitying them but when comes to getting your son/daughter marrying them it's like a complete 180 shift.
Kang Jong Ryul character was just plain dirty. I didn't like his character even till the end. If I am not wrong he didn't actually asked Dong Baek for forgiveness or from Pil gu. It just seemed so wrong for him to keep pestering them after leaving them for 7 years. Well I pity the character, but there is nothing much I can say that says he is good person. (even the ending scene where he gives money is also just plain wrong, If I were to marry Dong Baek, I wouldn't have taken it)
The one thing this drama lacked was the relation between Hwang Yong Shik and Pil-gu. This was the most frustrating for me, I waited till the ending expecting alteast one long scene with them. There needed to be atleast one scene showing a big family of Yong Shik, Dong Baek and Pil-gu just like in OSN. This would've solidified his relationship as a stepdad. They showed 2 second scenes where the Pil-gu character just says we are family. like wot?
Nevertheless it was a fun ride with lots of roller-coaster emotions swinging. Must watch for whoever likes to sit down for 20 hours and watch unfold an amazing life drama.
