Please let people do what they want to do. Thats basic manners. Thank you
i dont see where in my comment i tried to dictate what others do? it was an honest advice because i too usually keep watching something i dont like just to understand what others like about it or simply to give it a fair chance. if the shoe dont fit dont wear it! i dont see how my comment is upsetting lol
Yes you are right, I didn't bring it up and only adressed it because I agreed with the comment. But I can see how you thought I implied it was meant for you. That was not my intention, I meant it as a general statement because many comments here have been strange.
Yes I understand your criticism about her acting but I have to say that I do think it’s quite natural and in tune with the novel’s character (as others have so stated). Do I wish that they showcased her struggles, mainly the internal ones, more? Yes I do, and I believe they could’ve done a better job at deepening her character. I don’t mind her carefree character at all and despite what others here think, not everyone is going to turn into a cold and non-approachable person because of what they’ve suffered in the past. Nonetheless, I think they neglected her reaction to the betrayal and how she copes with it during her ”training era”
I have read most of the comments and while some are valid, others are downright misogynistic and strange. One commenter mentioned how female characters with a ”squeaky voice” are annoying because they are ”unsexy”, while they mentioned how they disliked long hair on men because it’s inconvenient. This is a pretty clear example of internal misogyny, the person of the comment managed to reduce the female character to nothing but her sex appeal, while the criticism for the male character is simply because of discomfort. This is only one example but there are far more in the comments that hold a double standard and forget to check themselves.
i do, i can provide a definition if you want, also i didnt mean that you have internal misogyny, but a lot of people complaining here do in fact have it, sadly they are obviously unaware about it, thats why its ”internal”
I think constructive criticism on the story is fair but am very surprised by the number of comments on her physical…
yeah i totally agree, i have no issues with criticism about the story because it is lacking in some aspects. i don’t think this drama is on par with for example, prisoner of beauty or the double. but it’s still good and way too harshly criticised.
and that is also something that i’ve been thinking about, if the female lead had more masculine facial features and was bulky, she would probably be deemed as unattractive. you cant win with some viewers because they complain no matter what is presented to them. they want a complex female character but when they are presented one, they refuse to even understand her. i saw this A LOT in the comment section of First Frost, the female lead was the opposite of the stereotypical bubbly and cute female character, she was distant and defensive because of her past. but yet again, a complex female character was criticised and misunderstood, people called her boring, unrealistic and cold. you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
female characters will always be criticised no matter what they do or how they act. we’ve seen it over and over again in dramas where the male lead will always get a pass but somehow the female lead must fit into a certain criteria to even be recognised. i want to preface by saying that the gender roles in cdramas are pretty evident and seeing a lot of female characters in a submissive role is disappointing, but we have to distinguish chinese tv-production from western tv-production, they differ far too much and expecting too much realism in cdramas is only going to make you disappointed. there are some overused tropes that we often see in cdramas that i hate, one of them being how the female lead acts like a child when she becomes drunk. its overused, cliche and dumb because everyone acts differently when they become drunk, yet female characters always turn into this submissive role.
so i do agree with some complaints but a lot of them are hypocritical and kinda stupid. ive seen people complain about the female lead’s build and how she doesn’t look like a general but ive never seen anyone complain about male leads in cdramas that are supposedly demon lords, strong generals, assassins or whatever, and literally look skinnier than my grandma and barely have any muscles?? or is it because they are men so you don’t question it? ive also seen people complain about the fl’s personality, how she’s too “bubbly” or “acts like a schoolgirl” and that she doesn’t act like a general, but why are we deciding how she should or shouldn’t act? just because she jokes around with her peers, doesn’t mean that she is weak or unserious. she has literally killed a wolf with her own hands, didn’t mind the execution of a soldier, lives and sleeps among men with no fear, rised on her own two feet despite being betrayed by her own family. but god forbid a female character doesn’t fit your standards. id like to see most of you keep the same standards for your beloved abusive male leads !
dont force urself to watch something you dont like
