Exactly right! And also letting the writing speak for itself which let's us ponder on our own about the character motivations - which we do here a lot and thanks to all of you giving those deep dives on Vegas and Pete. I've really appreciated them.

Things I've really appreciated about the filming and directorial choices in KPTS:

* NEVER using rain to indicate sadness/emotion - thank you, thank you, thank you. I feel like I want to riot every time I see this lame choice.
* Minimal use of flashbacks - the writers/directors have never treated us like idiots who can't remember what happened in a prior episode, or in the last ten minutes (kdramas - just please stop doing this, please)
*Limited use of the sad montage - remembering the moments, looking at pictures, etc. - I think they only did it with KimChay - is that right?

And in general, treating all of us like we have a brain in our heads - that we can understand what's happening without all these tired plot devices.

Hmm, other series like this. That got me thinking. Does it have to be a series? I think the Cari Fukunaga adaption of Jane Eyre was pretty good. I love me some Jane Eyre.

Do you want that feeling of anguish because of their abusive histories? The book A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara will deliver it in spades. I sobbed my eyes out five separate times reading this book. It's pretty unrelenting and many people categorized it as "torture porn." I like my heart to be broken so I lived that novel.

For fun - what are the interview videos that you watch again and again? For me it is this short clip because I love the production staff screaming "Apo, you need to close your eyes and meditate!" as he says one inappropriate thing after another. Plus Apo's laugh at the end. I could listen to an endless loop of him laughing.

And can we have a moment for Vegas's voice when he asks, "Do you think I want to be your son?" I nearly cried.

Yes, to all of this. The comedy was such a surprise and delight. I still laugh over the porn watching and the drawing of Tawan and Tankhun's hangover, the dancing at Yok's.

As the series comes to an end, I am in just a turmoil. For the longest time, I couldn't quite figure out the hold the series had on me. There are the obvious things - the chemistry between the actors, the acting, the production quality, the mix of comedy/action/romance that feels unique and of course Tankhun.

Episode 13 kind of pulled it all together for me. A TW here - I'm about to discuss SA in a non-graphic way so don't keep reading if that is upsetting to you. I was SAed by my father when I was a child (this was a long time ago, had lots of good therapy, in a very OK place today) and those Vegas/Pete scenes were revelatory to me. They are a testimony to how art can validate your experience, help you grieve, and give you words that you may not have had before. Pete's feelings in both of the big scenes - his disappearing humanity, the realization of how empty he feels, all the masks he's worn, how he struggles with knowing that he loves the person who has hurt him so deeply. All of that felt 100% real to me. It's so devastating to try and make sense of it all in your head. And I was so surprised that after all these years I could discover another layer of grief over my experience thanks to this show.

And the scene with Porsche in the bathroom where Porsche thinks his anger is the best thing he can do for Pete and how misguided that is. That is such a common response by the people who care for us. Most of the time it isn't helpful at all, as it was not in this case. Pete didn't need to have Porsche go beat up anybody. And Porsche isn't emotionally mature enough to even attempt to find out what Pete needs. Again, 100% realistic scene, in my experience.

So huge props to the writer, directors and actors for showing all these fucked up people in their rawest states and not letting them easily find resolution or easily become better people. When I look back at all these episodes, I think that the whole team swung for the fence every time. Was it perfect? No. Was it great? Absolutely yes.

I agree with this. Thank you. And as for turning to Vegas - I keep coming back to the early scene in Ep. 13 where Kinn and Porsche are talking before they go eat with Kinn's dad. You can tell that Kinn is so happy to be back with his family. Turning to Vegas was a dumb way of taking care of Kinn but I truly think that was his motivation. And also, we've been watching this drama for months now, it feels like a year sometimes. Porsche has fallen in love for the first time in his life, in a very short period of time and in a dangerous situation -is he going to be good at all of this? Especially when he feels like the dearest being to him, Porchay, is in danger? He's in his reptile mind, man.

OK, folks - talk to me about Kinn in this episode. He clearly knew that Porsche was keeping something from him. He might be dumb about Pete but he's not dumb about Porsche. So the fact that he didn't press him, was just simply there for him - what do we make of that? He trusted Porsche to tell him in time? Of course, we have the "guns pointed at each other" scene next week, so maybe not.

We've got one more episode, kids...and then it's over, until season 2, which will be a long wait. I was a KinnPorsche…
I love the idea of using "synergy" to describe Mile and Apo. Their connection is almost ineffable. Have you ever played a game with a close family or friend group and all the history and knowledge let's them win? Because they say "This was Sally's first car." And boom, the answer flies out of someone's mouth. Mile and Apo feel like that to me.

I don't have any idea either about BLs for the rest of the year. When I think back on my journey through the BL landscape, I think that so many dramas have good scenes but are ultimately subpar productions overall. And, for me, the acting is bad a lot of the time. For example, I found it VERY hard to get through Manner of Death. But I watched those shows because there were lots of likeable, funny, touching and brokenhearted moments.

With KinnPorsche, it's the opposite, the unlikable moments were few and far between, the quality of the production was amazing and the acting, for the most part, was fantastic. And they took the NC scenes so seriously and they were out of this world good. The ep. 7 scene in the bathroom - will we ever see the likes of that again? So I am ruined now.

To My Star 2 is killing me and I love it. It's my favorite Korean BL this year. I also think Old Fashioned Cupcake is great. Good writing, wonderful acting, two amazing leads. I love the single couple focus shows - I love how tight and focused the script can be with the short shows.

But basically, we are all on a desert island after next Saturday.

I had to run errands after watching the show and on my The Emotions playlist, the first song that shuffle chose was Why Don't You Stay and then this song came up. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLi8nLKCUrk

I thought "holy smokes, this is Vegas and Pete!" It isn't exact but it's darn close and Park Hyo Shin lays his heart all out like almost no one else. To me this captures the anguish that Vegas and Pete are in at this point.
