She contracted AIDS from the blood transfusion that they gave her when she and her parents got into a car accident. She was afraid of spreading it, so as a little girl, she came up with the lie that she was cursed to get all of the people around her not to come near her/touch her. All of those "cursed" things that happened were pure coincidences.
