I’m worried about the non-novel fans rn too. As a novel reader, I know that Mo Ran's obsession towards Shi Mei is an important plot point. I'm just scared that non-novel readers will think that Shi Mei is an ACTUAL love interest, and drop this, or as you said, pair the male lead with gender-changed character. I agree! To be honest, at first, I did try to say “all to their own” because I didn’t want to upset anyone about their personal opinion. But the original source material is a danmei, and that is what the entire cast and crew were trying their best to portray that. Saying it’s a bromance really is an insult to their efforts. Like, the cut sleeve reference was there for a reason! The gazes, the touches, everything. As much as it is censored, deep down it’s still a romantic relationship.
