Beautiful and poignant, hits all the right buttons
This is the kind of no drama that feels authentic and is realistic. No manufactured problems or misunderstandings, or ex gf/bf to cause trouble, just for the sake of drama and yet it fills the 12 episodes up well. Which goes to show what a good storyline and acting with the bonus of a nice OST can do. Kudos to the screenwriter, director and actors for the sensitive portrayal of the subject of blindness. All the characters were slightly flawed, but there were no villains or angels. One point I want to say is I was worried going into this because of a lot of negative feedback on the final episodes. But I was relieved to find out that it didn’t disappoint me at all. Everyone has an opinion of the best ending, but I’m just glad everything wrapped up positively. I hate gay dramas with negative portrayals and unnecessary bad endings. Perhaps that’s why the book had the last page missing, the ending is best if you did not have any expectations on the major plot lines, just wish for the best for the protagonists.

Good chemistry, good supporting cast
The min actors have great chemistry and are serious in portraying their characters well. The supporting cast especially Chu and Third are also very likable. No frustrating miscommunication or unnecessary friction. Well done. The OST is also very good. I guess the actors were singers which help too. The story is of course the stuff of fantasy, but it is fun and different from the run of the mill type. It does remind me of a Korean series of a similar story of a girl who reincarnated as a boy love interest.

Couldn’t have ended any better
After watching enough J BL, they generally fall into several categories, the comedic ones that have a relatively happy ending, the angsty one that has a bittersweet ending or the slice of life ones where the romance is somewhat muted. This one in the other hand had realistic elements with abuse and neglect - and yet also had a realistic and happy ending. The cinematography was great, especially the small meaningful moments, like subtle brush of the lips on the hand, use of water and the sea as analogy, and the playground ship. The willingness to show intimacy instead of bland dead fish kisses also elevates the story. Was this review helpful to you?
