This is Cho Na's idea, and it was fun to contribute to this article.. I had grown out of reading books, which is such a pity.

A Korean Odyssey is a very cheesy adaptation of JTTW, not for ardent fans of the original JTTW. I'm still waiting for Vagabond sequel..

Seeing the words "A Chinese Odyssey" reminded me that I have watched the Korean adaptation of JTTW - A Korean Odyssey with Lee Seung Gi as Monkey!

Thanks Gastoski! Maybe I should check out other adaptations of JTTW.. The novel seems much harder to check out, especially if it is not translated!

Glad to see an editorial after a 2-week hiatus (phew, the admins were just on year-end break), a 2023 wrap-up article in the first weekend of 2024 and an editorial by Cho Na.. really missed Cho Na's thoughtfully written editorials and working together. Hope the editorials by fellow MDL users will continue to get priority attention from the admins.

maybe cause they are peers of similar age and more comparable, and JOL1 only has a few episodes of them in the same screen. Btw, not that they have worked together, do you know that XZ has taken over HG's role in the musical A Dream Like A Dream..

im quite disappointed he was not casted in JOL2. was so looking forward to these two versatile actors spar acting skills with each other and with the veteran actors.. sigh

I haven't watched any of those dramas, but this is so much more fun than "x reasons to watch xyz". Look forward to Part 2!

I can only agree that the CGI is bad. The series transcends the novel, bringing focus on the core of the plot and messages on good vs evil, weak vs strong, society norms, found family etc.

Such a shame that this drama is sliding down the Top Ranked chart with so many newer dramas that lack the plot, narrative and emotional depths of this drama

hey, skipping the clans' scenes will mean missing out impt pieces of Wei Wuxian's life story. the clans portray the mass public, that sway with public opinions, rather than what is really right vs wrong or good vs bad

I always find it such a shame for this drama to be BL-hyped "scaring" away viewers who are not into BL dramas, when there is only bromance between the two MLs in the drama, and the drama is so much more in its story, plot, values, honor, society norms and on found families, than the relationship between the two MLs. The Jiang siblings and Wen families have very deep kinship and also the friendship of Wei Wu Xian, Wen Ning and Wen Qing, that touched me immensely. p/s: I'm also not into BL drama and watched with my parents, not knowing anything about this drama
