in the first video it seemed like she was trying to learn Cantonese, and he was teasing in Cantonese, but she has no clue what he said. His Cantonese voice is so handsome. I think his voice is deep, has a rich sound.

I see other fans gushing about actors they like and for the life of me, I don't feel the same, so I know it's subjective. I feel he has something really special that going to acting school cannot give you. That scene he did in ABAY where they had an intense confrontation, his acting was so raw. I really like his acting in that scene. It's so good.

I used to think MDL ratings were some important score. Now I know better. Getting 7.5 or 8.5 who cares. It is of no significance except to those who care about MDL scores. Reach and Buzz is what is important.

MDL ratings are typically low for xu kai. But who cares about MDL ratings. It has no impact on anything. As popular as Xu Kai is overseas, it pales in comparison to China's hundreds of millions of watchers. The fact that Moonlit Reunion was listed as #1 in China but is not aired on CCTV, means that it's reaching Chinese watchers through just normal stations in China. A drama can reach and generate buzz is more important than ratings.

the reason there is not as much hate at the Xu Kai usual level of hate yet is perhaps delay for international viewers. No, it doesn't just happen to Xu Kai, but it happens to him on a totally different level like no other. They recycled same old tired negative narratives.

wait what happen to the scene in a trailer where she was upset, she fought him, then stepped into her carriage and he went and grabbed her to go back in? did they edit that out and instead put in the scene we see in ep 23, all he does is go after her and put her on a horse? the one in the trailers was so intense and romantic flair

Wu Zhen's personality leans more toward assertive leadership. The playfulness is just a facade.

but I find it so profound. you can see what he says in life. how people realize truths too late in life, have regrets, lost more than they gained when obsessed with what they think are meaningful pursuits, at end of life, you realized it really wasn't worth it, and how what you go through, others are going through, and they have to go through it to see it for themselves, and like all the world's a stage, you can watch. I find that scene mesmerizing.

The drama blends supernatural fantasy and romance, with a tone that’s playful and emotionally driven—not action-heavy. While it features Taoist magic and mystical realms, the heart of the story is about relationships, identity, and emotional growth. It’s not a full-blown martial arts epic, but it definitely has plenty of amazing fight scenes—stylish, intense, and emotionally charged. The action supports the story rather than overshadowing it.

You might’ve missed a few scenes—“waiting for him to perform some Taoism”? He saved her several times, and she came to help him once, but he would’ve ultimately freed himself. She sensed he was in trouble in the formation. I don’t recall him being called a celestial master; he’s a disciple of Changxi Palace, a favorite of the master who found him as a homeless orphan. The drama doesn’t center on Changxi Palace, but it’s a key part of the story—his history, his return, and the impending clash. His swordsmanship was shown when his master gave him the sword and he had to claim it as his own. There’s not a lot of martial arts because that’s simply not the focus. It’s part of the world, not the core of the narrative. If they leaned into that, it would become a different kind of drama—more about Changxi or martial arts masters.

This isn’t even classic wuxia with traditional heroes, even though Changxi sort of fits that mold—but not entirely, since the sect has been dormant and doesn’t embody the usual chivalry of wuxia. Classic wuxia typically centers around heroic sects, righteous martial artists, and a strong sense of chivalry and moral code. The sects in traditional wuxia stories often uphold justice, protect the weak, and fight evil forces with honor. But in Moonlit Reunion, I don’t believe Changxi Palace fits that mold. Mei Zhuyu’s sense of righteousness and respect for rules seems to come more from his parents than from the sect itself.

Your crude dismissals are lazy criticism. Maybe the problem is your unsophisticated expectations. Find a drama worth your wit or refine your taste.

in the novel, Wordless Book is described as a spirit of unknown age, so his very existence is a mystery. It even described him as a book without words from heaven. In the drama, I think he said to Wu Zhen, he doesn't even know where he came from.

but I don't feel like they're pointless characters as in some other dramas, they're written to enrich the story. it depends on each viewer; how much time you want to examine the characters

I don't think either of them would have married each other had they known each other's identities, Demons and Celestials are sworn enemies. They would have fight each other.

Ep 23 about 1/4 of the way in. You shouldn't skip such a good scene.

somehow, I took it to mean he'd have to kill her because he also had to swear loyalty to the sect, that means they will ask him to kill her, he has been one to go by the rules and he swore

I don't' think he learned that behavior from celestials, he was already like that when he encountered his master. In fact, his master has a carefree personality, unlike him. We see him as a kid not trusting in anyone. When his master said do you want to join me, the kid asked question to make sure it was ok. I think the only think he learned from celestial master is how to cultivate qi. As for the other sect members, he seemed not to really get along with them, they seemed to mock him, he asked his master why the others said he has no sect name, that his not one of them, so he never really felt he belonged, there. You don't' see any closeness, no scenes of him close to any of them, only his master, and maybe later they may show more flashbacks with his master, we learn some secrets about the master because they made him out to be this unserious guy, I don't believe it.
