I tink this drama will strike a chord with everyone in some way, shape, or form, transcending Chinese history and culture. I feel even if the situation isn’t something you’ve personally experienced, its universal themes will still resonate deeply.

I don’t know why she was in a rush to get that money, she didn’t even use it.
She was going to buy her dad and mom something and herself a phone I think. The mother said she will save the money for her dowry. Later, didn't the mother break the piggy bank to use the money to pay for Grandma 's hospital bills? then later Feng Hua didn't mind at all, she sat there happy about the broken piggy bank as she pieced it back together, or did I get it wrong?

Northward is topping the Vlinkage charts 3 days in a row now, daily scoring above 80 Uusally a weekly total in high 500 or above 600 is considered excellent. Looking forward to second half of this drama as they transformed to see how the dynamics of these "kids" and their parents play out, and what other mysteries await SiYi, has her life already made the impact on the group or still to come?

I thought the policeman said to WangHe that they "watched him delete all the pictures and will punish him according to the law" so why did the family still have to pay him money?

SiYi's guilt of having left Grandma alone to borrow money to save Wang He. WangHe's guilt of having cause SiYi to leave grandma alone. All SiYi ever wanted in life was to keep her grandma safe and well. Fenghua's guilt of taking her brother to see a movie knowing that grandma was not feeling well and she was supposed to cook for them. In the wink of any eye, your life can be changed forever

SiYi is wise beyond her years, wiser than a lot of people chasing success and forgetting the most precious things in their life! For SiYi, family is more important than anything else in her life.
"Everyone's idea of success is different. For me, it's enough that every day I wake up I can see Grandma and my brother."
(this could also be foreshadowing)

well, they are all poor, n also very young, they shouldn’t worry too much about this yet lol. the fact is SiYi…
That was my initial thought too that she cried over losing WangHe but she could be crying for other reasons too. When she gave that look that devilish smile seeing them together and looked so confident, I thought Oh she got over him and thinks they belong together, as she slowly walked back to her home methodically closing door and curtains behind her,, she seemed so together, only to find her sit down in agony and tears. But there could be many reasons for her to cry. Her life has been very tough. She's a very smart girl and thinks ahead. I like the contrast between her and Fenghua, makes for interesting story. We know from the original synopsis that SiYI alhtough not the female lead, her role is a pivotal role in the narrative.

hmm I not so sure now that SiYI has given up on WangHe. When Fenghua asked her if she likes Wanghe, she was cryptic about it: "the word like is too much a luxury for me. AT LEAST FOR NOW, I don't deserve it", but then she also said she didn't' want to fall out with Fenghua over such trivial thing, but is it trivial? One thing is for sure, it is foreshadowing that these two will have a falling out later. Perhaps later when SiYi is ready for WangHe, he will have discovered Fenghua instead and she'll become jealous?

I find SiYi and Fenghua dynamics interesting. It'll be interesting how the dynamics change later on, with them, and the others.

I think in that moment SiYI realized Fenghua and Wanghe belong together so I think based on that look on her face, she will not pursue him, she wants to focus on her studies. She values her relationship with Fenghua more. The way SiYi talks to Fenghua, you'd think she's lived longer than her. Of course, Fenghua has always liked Wanghe forever but because they grew up like siblings and she's such a rough and tough scrappy sassy girl, the way they horse around, he won't be able to see her in any other way until she transforms later on when they all return back to the canal. Fenghua I think knows that SiYi secretly likes Wanghe, but both Fenghua and SiYi don't want to hurt each other over Wanghe, and SiYi seems willing to move on. I think Wanghe is the only one who is clueless that these two girls secretly like him. He treats SiYi different because she is softer, gentle, sweet, smart, pretty like a girl, and the new kid on the block when she came, while Fenghua has always played with and fought with him like a brother. I supposed Fenghua will become prettier and more sophisticated when she returns to the canal, and then Wanghe will notice her differently, more like a girl. Girls are more emotionally matured at younger age. The guys seem clueless.

She goes to a high school ranked #1 and they go to a high school ranked #7. It sounds like in the joint exam, #7 ranked #4?

In an interview, Bai Lu says she is "extremely similiar" to her character in Northward. Her path in life "feels the same." The only difference is that Bai Lu "did not experience the big peaks and valleys her character did." Bai Lu had short hair too. Her parents were the same. Her mom was identical to her character's. mom - head of family, controls finances and everything, has a temper, and controls dad, just like Bai Lu's dad was also under control of her mom. She was also a model and eventually made her way to Beijing too.

I think they all protect Siyi because she really is almost an orphan and she is so lovely its impossible not to…
My view is that growing up, Feng Hua has always known that she liked Wang He, and Si YI also likes Wang He and has known that Feng Hua also likes Wang He. But these are normal childhood crushes. At that age, girls are more mature than guys and guys are more focused on other things. Also Feng Hua's mom has always known thta Feng Hua and Si Yi both like Wang He. She even said to Feng Hua, "what if one day you have to give up something you like to her". but it may not lead to that. It's obvious Feng Hua will continue to like Wang He, but Si Yi may change once she leave the canal.

Heartbroken, SiYi sat by her sick grandmother’s side in the hospital, her head buried against her. She cried out, 'Grandma, I’m scared.' Her sweet, innocent voice was piercing, stirring, ethereal, and fragile—it rang out with sadness and fear.

MDL should show all six main characters in the poster. Why does the synopsis say "several" when it's six.

This polarizing director (like him or hate him), known for his dramatic style, striking visuals, and quirky humor, has been busy since his 'debut' with The Double (2024). His first drama, Go Princess Go (2015), was a super low-budget slapstick comedy. Now, with two more dramas (Moonlit Reunion, Rebirth) set to air in 2025, is he reviving his career?
