I know when I read the novel, I thought this is weird, how can the empress and consort be so close. In the novel, everyone knows, the consort is favored by the emperor. The empress takes care of business while the emperor has fun. Also, the crown prince is the biological son of the consort, while the empress has only a daughter but in the novel, the empress even loves the consort's son more.

unfortunately, Mei Zhuyu is supposed to be bland, but he may change as his personality is different in private around her and at night. Because of her, he'll actually give a smile and shock people, but before he met her, forget introvert, he was total reclusive, doesn't say much, and is cold, expressionless (yeah right, Xu Kai playing an expressionless character

(in novel) Mei Zhuyu, a reclusive, described as "a man of few words," is only 22 yrs old and I think Xu Kai has no problem playing a young character. Mei Si his cousin is 17 yrs old. Lady Wu is 26 yrs old, way pass the betrothal age of 15 to 19. Liu Tai Zhen (Snake Lord) is only 1 yr apart from Wu Zhen (Cat Lord). The actress playing Snake Lord, this is her first drama! her debut, and she's only 22 in real life.

and there's Star Wars like aliens

those two were not enemies in the novel but quite feisty with each other

or the moles (Xu Kai) and lines on their raw faces. if the women are cakey, I think it aligns to Tang dynasty style
