Han Ting is a man of extraordinary ambition and perfectionism, shaped by personal tragedy and relentless drive. He forged an armor of resilience and resolve, shielding himself from vulnerability. His unwavering dedication to a formidable goal—establishing an R&D center in Germany from the ground up—defined his time abroad. Upon returning to China, constant internal opposition, corruption, and fierce, unscrupulous competition sharpened his focus, leaving little room for emotional warmth or vulnerability. Singularly focused on his mission since his parents' passing, his deeply personal goal created a barrier between him and others, often giving the impression of coldness or detachment.

His resilience and defiance against adversaries determined to crush his ambitions often made him seem unapproachable or robotic. Having honed himself into someone who never falters under pressure, his drive evolved into ruthlessness in pursuit of his goals. It’s not that he lacks emotion; rather, he appears to channel it entirely into his ambitions, avoiding outward expression.

In one episode, Han Ting brought Ji Xing to meet his family. His grand-aunt shared how Han Ting changed after his parents’ death—becoming detached from everyone—and spent ten years in Germany, consumed by work.

Of course, when Ji Xing reappeared in his life, he had never forgotten her. Partly because he thought she wanted nothing to do with him, and partly because he had thrown himself into his work, Han Ting never searched for her and never thought he'd see her again. Yet, their meeting reignited something within him—emotions he thought he had long buried.

J Xing unknowingly stepped into Han Ting's world—a world shaped by ambition, secrecy, and an unwavering goal. His actions toward her were ruthless, calculated to protect his plans, yet beneath the surface, he quietly and secretly supported her, shielding her in ways she would never see.

I think it's because the drama is produced by her company. I heard it has big budget for a short drama maybe that's…
I noticed she was nominated for best supporting actress in 2017 for her 2015 film, The Wind Uprise. Back then she was only 19, very cute girl. I don't know anything about her but perhaps that's how she got noticed by Yu Zheng. Around that time, Yu Zheng pivoted from directing to producing and was scouting for actors. It seems to me she was one of his most talented and experienced newcomers at the time, probably the only one with such a nomination. Both she and Wu Jinyan attended prestigious acting schools. I guess Yu Zheng wanted to put his resources into someone who he thinks can command huge popularity. Right now, I think he's focused on a young actor.

This was really good for a vertical drama. I loved it. And the acting was nice as expected from WJY. I really…
Why is Wu Jiayi potential being wasted. Every year goes by, she's not getting younger. Her acting is very natural and versatile too. She played such diverse roles as in AMA and Court Lady, I hardly recognized it's the same actress. I feel she can play interesting roles that others cannot.

It seems the story's depth and nuance might have been overlooked here. By looking beyond surface-level appearances and examining the intricacies of the characters and their decisions, a much richer narrative could be revealed. A closer look reveals a more complex dynamic, with rich layers of motivations and decisions that add meaning to the narrative.

apparently nowadays MDL is maintained by Fandoms. And always there are some Toxic fans exist for certain Actor/actresses
MDL is also biased toward certain actors; some they like more than others.

This drama captures a wide range of emotions. Unfortunately, real life doesn’t always have happy endings. In reality, relentless work often makes people ignore family, friends, and their health, leading to regrets. Pressures like work, money, or society, along with personal ambition, keep it going. Many realize too late the cost of these choices and second chances are rare, but some think it's worth it for success or greatness. That said, this drama effectively highlights these harsh realities.

this will need to be pinned in the board, so ppl who thinks this character was made for this actor rumour can…
This article seems to be making a case for "secondary creation", suggesting that 'Northward' is more of a secondary creation than an adaptation. The difference is adaptation retells the original work in a new format (novel to tv) staying loyal to its characters and story, while secondary creation uses the original as inspiration but adds new ideas, like original plots or characters. Like you said, the character was developed as part of the writer's vision for "Northward" and not tailored to fit any specific actor.

Thank god the overall review went up from 7.9 to 8.0.... people really judge the drama even when it's not completed…
My opinion is that the premise of MDL ratings relies on users' input and other inputs, but the final judgment rest with MDL; unlike Viki, I believe is purely based on raw user inputs which often results in consistently higher scores compared to MDL. Someone said MDL has an algorithm that will even toss out 10's. I am also of the opinion that MDL is biased toward certain actors.

For a moment, as I watched Siyi's face from a certain angle, the way her emotions played across her expressions and the depth of her gaze reminded me of the actress Crystal Liu, aka Liu Yifei.

perhaps SiYi returns because she finds out Fenghua is sick, has become wealthy, pays for her surgery, attends wedding? maybe the reason Fenghua didn't want to get treatment is the cost and so she doesn't want anyone to know to spare them

I feel like something bad is imminent in his life to make him reevaluate his life.
Sometimes, it's only through hardship or failure that people are forced to confront their flaws and re-evaluate their values, leading to profound change. I wonder if his startup may fail IPO, or maybe once he learns about Fenghua serious illness, what does it take for him to realize there's more to life. The employee who ran a red light due to the weather and stress is really stupid if he doesn't have stock options. Why do you risk your life for someone else to profit from?

No one on their deathbed ever said, 'I wish I had worked harder.'"
Some people look back at their childhood and remember how happy they were even though they had little, but they didn't feel poor because they had food to eat, roof over their head, and loving parents, and happy memories. So, achieving material wealth later in life does not guarantee you will be happier than when you were poor. Happiness does not come from wealth.

+ I don't know why but WangHe can come across like an elitist. I'm not saying he's bad person, just the way he comes across.

WangHe has had nothing bad happened in his life to him or his parents, like if he were the one with heart attack or cancer, or his parents, he would not push this hard. It's not worth it. In the blink of an eye, your life can suddenly change and then all that you push so hard for become meaningless.

Congrats xukai for his win ^^
The two winners of this award were Li Qin and Xu Kai. Li Qin won for her 2024 roles in JOLS2, War of Faith, two super hot dramas in 2024. I feel that it is quite an honor for Xu Kai to win the same award alongside her.
