I saw X postings today about this, so I came here to look for it. Xu Kai will play an evil person, "born evil", a drug dealer, son of a police officer. It's only 12 episodes, slated for 2025.
Wang Xingyue has a deep, commanding, and resonant voice, with natural, expressive, and poignant line delivery. He possesses both screen and stage presence, which might be attributed to his inherent aura and the influence of a director who admires Shakespeare. His serious and mature facial expressions make him look a decade older, but when he smiles, his sweet, almost shy, innocent smile reveals he’s just 22. He has a bright future ahead given the right roles.
As viewers, we see the plot unfolding and even know the plot in advance, and we even get to watch scenes of what others are plotting, but JX does not get to know what we viewers already know. To understand her character, one has to immerse themselves in her character, her upbringing, her dreams and aspirations, her personality, her values, etc. Watching a drama is not about what we would do, but based on her character, what she would do.
I was just checking and adding my review of this drama. I noticed that most of them have rated it above 9.0 however…
XK dramas are usually underrated and never overrated.

In this drama, I’m noticing a new actress, Vanda Lee Margraf (Chinese name: Li Wan Da), who is 21 and debuting in 2024. Although she had a supporting role in ‘Ip Man 4’ in 2019 at 16 and did a short film in 2021, she hasn’t done anything else since then. This year marks her debut in four dramas, with three main roles and one supporting role in the highly anticipated ‘The Legend of the Condor Heroes’ starring Xiao Zhan. She is of mixed race, with a Chinese mother and a German father, and studied at Beijing Dance Academy. I find her interesting. Her style in the drama is different than everyone else. I wonder if it's because she was abroad.
XK and TSY both won breakthrough artist of the year awards in 2020 (same award ceremony) and breakthrough artist of the year again in 2023 (separate award ceremonies). Hope we can see them win awards again in 2025 (perhaps same award ceremony).
XK was filming ABAY in Mar 2023. He got it for his roles in Royal Feast and She and Her Perfect Husband. SHPH Tencent heat index hit 28000 the day after it aired. TSY got her award for Fight To You with Tencent heat index 28,652. ABAY heat index was 27,910. Let's see if ABAY is a strong enough drama that will get them another breakthrough award.
You can't tell how popular a drama really is based on ratings. I think SHPH was like the #3 drama in 2022 based on viewership. Xu Kai’s acting career is like a smorgasbord, offering a delightful array of unique and interesting characters. This is why I enjoy watching his dramas. It’s fascinating how the same actor can embody so many different personalities with such nuance that you find yourself rewatching to catch all the details.
WJY and Hong Yao got married...https://m.weibo.cn/u/1278603180https://m.weibo.cn/u/1906339011https://www.straitstimes.com/life/entertainment/story-of-yanxi-palace-stars-wu-jinyan-and-hong-yao-get-married
I saw an X post that they got married 3 years ago around the time she was filming Royal Feast, and that she's pregnant now. There was even a video of her walking like pregnant woman.
Zhang Feng Yi is more than suited for this role. His resume consists of: Heroic Legend of the Qing Dynasty (2006): He played Dorgon, a Manchu prince who played a role in the establishment of the Qing Dynasty. Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor (2007): He played Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China who unified the country under the Qin Dynasty. The Biography of Sun Tzu (2011): He played Sun Tzu, the famous military general and author of “The Art of War.” The Empress of China (2014): He played Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, from which China got Wu Zetian, the first and only female emperor. Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace (2018): He played a supporting role as Emperor Yongzheng, the father of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty. The Imperial Age (2022): He played General Xu Da, who played a crucial role in the establishment of the Ming Dynasty.
Please rate in the review section. I can't believe that the ratings has dropped to 8.1.
The Douban score dropped from 6.9 to 6.5. The number of user ratings are quite low to begin with so the overall score shouldn't change much, but suddenly an additional 1,000 user ratings dropped in, and 100% of it rated it 3 or below all at once suddenly when the percentage of 5 star or perfect ratings were well over 20% so how can 100% of the 1,000 user ratings all below 3? Very suspicious. That's why I no longer put much emphasis on ratings. They're interesting but take it with grain of salt. Over time, if more honest users go to rate it, it may take a year to bring it back up to at least 6.7. I wonder why the number of user ratings is low though. the higher the user ratings on Douban is usually a good indication of how popular a drama is.
That's why one should never put a lot of emphasis on any ratings because somehow this short special got downgraded from 8.5 to 8.1 so fast. It's done so well that it makes you ache and is hard to rewatch because it's so realistic, yet you want to peek back too because it's so incredibly sweet. The range of raw emotions such a very short scene can evoke is truly amazing. You feel like you watched someone's entire life and so natural too, in like I don't know, was it like 12 minutes only? It deserves a 10. I can't think of how else you can pack eternity into a few mintues.
