Oh, so this is the same director who did all these good dramas: 1. Empresses in the Palace (Douban 9.4), 2. Red Sorghum (8.3), 3. Legend of Mi Yue (6.2 but lots of awards), and 4. Always on the Move (7.4). I picked these out. Why? I click on it and can't stop watching. Now I know why. This director either nominated or won awards for all these dramas, not just best director, but lots of other awards too for the dramas.

it wouldn't be a Chinese drama if it's not violent and brutal and for some reason, it's not that scary at all... the way Chinese dramas do the violence. American movies violence is much scarier. Chinese drama violence for some reason always comes off like it's just a movie rather than real life violence that you feel in American movies.

If anyone is interested in Vanda Margraf, she will be female lead in an action costume drama called, The Days of Seclusion and Love, with male lead Deng Wei. She plays a "heroic and bloody heroine on the battlefield."

Vanda Margraf is rumored to be the leading actress. She definitely has acting prowess after watching her in Northward.

I just happen to be watching Always on the Move (2024), so I would recommend that based on your desire for "focused on the life, family and youth themes." However, these are young adults not teenagers. It received multiple nominations from Golden Eagle and Magnolia awards, including a win for Best supporting actress.

I first came across him in The Rise of Phoenixes and was very impressed, then I saw him again in New Life Begins and I thought oh it's that same actor, he was really good in that one too. Recently, I checked out Always on the Move and yeah, he's definitely talented. Whatever drama he is in, he doesn't disappoint. He has ability to immerse himself in the character and shape the character with a lot of depth.
