I thought they don't like his Cantonese accent. Is this a compliment or criticism?I speak Cantonese not Mandarin…
I read somewhere that Xu Kai's parents are originally from region that is more in the middle of China and migrated to Shenzhen, so I doubt his family speaks Cantonese at home, but their Mandarin probably has some accent. XK probably picked up a lot of Cantonese having watched ton of Hong Kong movies growing up, being so close to Hong Kong and going there every chance he gets to eat, shop, and have fun. He also said he had Cantonese speaking friends growing up being so near Hong Kong and actually spoke Cantonese with them growing up but at some point, he stopped using it. Perhaps his accent is a mixture of the Cantonese and his parents Mandarin from their region. For him, it's just one more thing he has to overcome and will take time and effort.

I was reading comments from 5 yrs ago on Xu Kai and found following reactions from his interview on his accent and origins. I think people take him too literally. His Cantonese is very good but he doesn't use it. Xu Kai is just being modest. "So he's not native Cantonese. His parents probably migrated to Guangdong. Honestly, I was shocked he was born Cantonese because he's too tall to be Cantonese hahahaha" "Xu Kai said that his Cantonese is not standard, and Mandarin is not good. So what is the language he is good at..." "'He is supposed to be a Hakka in Guangdong, so he doesn't speak Cantonese well" " It can also be understood in this way: He speaks good Cantonese; unlike he doesn't know Cantonese" " Xu Kai is not like a Cantonese name. It's not palatable." "In fact, he spoke Cantonese very well, and the host's response was enthusiastic" "Speaking Cantonese, the voice is also very crisp"
Every character Xu Kai has ever portrayed has his own set of expressions, mannerisms, and emotions which makes rewatching his dramas so fascinating. His characters evolve or become a completely different person, and his expressions, mannerisms, and emotions adapt to the character development or to the new character that emerges. He is a versatile actor.
I watched sword and fairy 6 as my first introduction to Xu Kai because I thought he would be cute in it.Little…
You may want to check him out in Arsenal Military Academy. There is no other Chinese actor who can re-create his character in AMA. That's why he won Best Actor for his portrayal.
I just want to know does Xiao zhan star in the season 2 as well or did they remove his character
I read somewhere another theory was that he got mixed reviews in S1 so his team felt it was not worth it to get criticized for a supporting role. They felt no matter what there will always be criticisms.
XK: Most importantly, this was my first-time to participate in such a life-like and pyrotechnic work. To be honest, there aren't many similarities between Yao Zhiming and me. If I had to mention one, it would probably be the underlying softness and workaholic nature we both share; otherwise, we are quite different. For actors, the accumulation of acting experience is a valuable asset, and the challenges and interpretations of different roles are precious opportunities. In the past, I was more inclined towards themes like ancient costumes and martial arts, because every boy has a martial arts fantasy in his heart. But one characteristic of ancient costume dramas is that they are farther from our real life compared to modern dramas like "Best Choice Ever (Cheng Huanji)". Most of the characters in ancient costume dramas are portrayed as more "perfect", giving a feeling of being "floating in the sky". In recent years, as I have grown older, I have become more interested in characters like Yao Zhiming, who are not so perfect, have their own flaws, a certain real contrast, and vibrant personalities. Therefore, in the future, I may lean more towards down-to-earth characters in scrip selection, so everyone can look forward to it."
Producer & screenwriter: "We ultimately chose Xu Kai. Later, we found that he is truly versatile and handles the different aspects of the character very well."
Producer Yang Liu: "His performance is very natural. He is a smart actor. We felt he fit the role very well. When we selected him, he had the tall and handsome physical image required and did not lack the warm and emotional internal side required. But what makes me happy is his presentation of the sinister and venomous side of YZM. He does not use exaggerated or straightforward expressions but chooses to hold back his performance and present it to the audience in an implicit and calm manner."
Imo, the actor who plays ML father is a very good actor. I happened to notice that he is also in Joy of Life S1 and S2 as a serious character for contrast. For me, the chemistry between LI Ni's father and his two sons by same wife is an intriguing mix of comedy and dramatics that evokes laughter and sense of horror. They're so funny, stupid, cunning, sadistic and dramatic esp. when they fought all bloody. Their expressions were obviously comedy to me, yet I didn't' know if I should laugh or be horrified by their dramatics. The blend of humor and intense moments created a unique dynamic that was entertaining to me. A contradiction of tragedy/humor, amusement/absurdity.

ok so I am at ep 16 and right now the only problem is the whole mai family.like no matter what happens they always…
How is the grandma a hypocrite? The drama doesn't tell us too much about her past, but grandma had a miserable marriage that ended terribly and only found happiness when she met Mai's father very late in life probably late 50's to early 60's. Her husband and only son squandered the family fortune, and they were supposedly very wealthy people. She held onto Xing'anli as best as she could, and it became her family. When YZM went abroad as a little kid, she never really saw him again, her only grandson. She tried to make it up to YZM by aligning him with Mai family because she knows her grandson better than he does, that he naturally has good heart.
I guess xiao zhan is just too popular right now to play supporting roles...
the other theory is that he got mixed reviews for his role in season 1 so his team decided against it because they felt no matter how good he is, it will spark controversy and it's not worth it to him for a supporting role.

this novel is pretty steamy romance. I doubt any of that will be in a Chinese drama.
