Every single expression and movement of his in this entire performance only XK can create for this character. His portrayal is iconic. Any other actor the character would not have been iconic. This is why he received Best Actor award for this character. This is why he's more popular overseas than in China. He has special or unique qualities not found in other Chinese actors.

In Ep 31 Mr. Mai and YZM are fishing, YZM said "Mr. Mai, although I am not sure how long I can be with Huan, I can promise that I will cherish every moment I spend with her." I took that to mean they may or may not end up together in the future.

I'm surprised Tan Jianci didn't rose to stardom until recently in this drama LYF (source: Wikipedia). When I watched Court Lady, outside of Xu Kai, I only noticed him (well, he did have quite a bit of screen time with fl, and I thought, "who is this actor, he's really good".

There is something about Wang Kai that makes me think of Xu Kai, even though they are very different. I can't find it anymore, but I came across a video of Wang Kai singing Pearl of the Orient, and I couldn't but help notice that it sounded so similar to Xu Kai's version, similar timbre and same emotional tone but Wang Kai is a professional singer with well-trained voice, while Xu Kai is amateur singer with a great voice. Yes, I do realize that Wang Kai professional level in acting is way higher than Xu Kai because of their backgrounds. But Xu Kai has his own special quality that is rare. I clicked onto an episode of FTY and was hooked immediately by Seven Tan and Wang Kai chemistry and performance. I hope you will enjoy as much as I did.

Wow, Seven Tan's drama Flight to You (1.938B views) and Road Home (1.57B views) were huge success. Flight to You even surpassed Oath of Love. Here's wishing more success to Seven Tan (and Xu Kai). I discovered Wang Kai after watching Flight to You. Xu Kai and Wang Kai are similar in that they are both classy men.

BCE is currently ranked #6 on the Yunhe annual list for 2024 with 22 days of airing and 37 episodes. Other dramas may have more episodes or aired earlier which doesn't seem fair if a drama airs at the end of the year.

There are only two Xu kai dramas I've not watched in full, and this is one of them. I will finally watch it now. Douban is 7.0 with 90K user ratings.

Are there any other zany Chinese dramas like this? Its hilarious. I don't think any other actor can replace Xu Kai as Wang Lu. It's such a unique character. Xu Kai owns this one, just like Gu Yanzhen in AMA another unique character.

Xu Kai may have a youthful face, but he can bridge it with his tall imposing stature and impeccable style to exude maturity, affluence, authority, a sense of being well-established, and an elitist quality. His face is young looking but his physical attributes does embody the essence of Han Ting. Of course, looking like Han Ting is not enough, wait to see how XK portray HT's demeanor and voice to make Han Ting more believable despite his young face. He performed this role before BCE, so this role was his first test in modern drama using his own voice to portray as ruthless man.

XK has always played characters the same age or much younger than himself (well, Yang Hua was 28/29at the time XK was 27). In his two latest modern dramas, the characters are older than him by 2 to 5 yrs. Han Ting may be the oldest character that XK has played. Han Ting is at least 34? and XK is 29.

I hope his character will stay impeccable and serious throughout the drama, charming and classy, and without any funny scenes. In this kind of intense story with strong and opposing personalities, there should be a lot of passion in their collaboration and relationship, like the scene of them blowing up at each other.
