There is no competition. This drama is living up to the family theme by bringing in dynamics of other relatives…
I think Zhang and her daughter dynamics is for contrast to MCH and her mother. A mother who can't stand her daughter and neglects her but can afford to give her everything has a rebellious daughter who wants a mother but rebels instead. Contrast that to MCH who has very loving and caring mother who is suffocating her with too much attention, depends on her daughter, but the obedient daughter has had it and pushes mom away, while Zhang's daughter wished to be closer to her mom.

Title Best Choice Ever Spoiler
That was just wrong that Mei inherited the hotel instead of grandma's REAL grandchild. That must have felt horrible…
Initially, he was upset but after he read his grandma's letter, he understood her intentions were loving toward him, her only wish is he should live a meaningful life. She always regretted that she was not able to help him have a home when he was a young boy and everyone abandoned him, by not giving him the hotel but a house instead, in hopes that it can help him to find meaning in his life. If she gives him the hotel, he will get promoted and never find meaning. This is how she feel she can make it up to him, it is a loving decision. Also, the months he has spent with her since his return, grandma has taught him a lot about how to live his life, and he's had conversations with grandma about the hotel and what she values and role of MCH. He came to understand that grandma has entrusted MCH and the hotel to him. YZM is a complex character who knows how to be ruthless but also has a soft side to him which was most evident when he is with his grandma.

There's more to her decision but her letter was to him, and she just wanted to let him know that her decision is one borne out of love, she said in her letter "it is not to make things better for you but to make up for regrets"

YZM has to consult a love encyclopedia? MCH is the experienced one. This was contrary to my expectation of YZM character.

Why is YZM so timid to kiss her? He is older, been abroad, has had past girlfriends, is a few years older and more experienced. She's been in love before. Perhaps YZM may have girlfriends but has never fallen in love before, so he's unsure of himself. Also, her initiative and do it attitude matches her tenacity in life.

When we thought that there was going to be some development in the leads' romance, they introduced new characters…
There is no competition. This drama is living up to the family theme by bringing in dynamics of other relatives and the conflict between Zhang and her daughter. I'm perplexed how YZM can be so wise and understanding about family relationships given his own tragic childhood and he shun family and preferred to be alone. The drama does not reveal anything else about Zhang and YZM. I guess there is no plot between Zhang and YZM.

Wow. When MCH dressed as a sunflower to lure YZM out to the balcony, that was super charming and sweet acting. Her expressions and movements were so adorable. How can he not smile? Her voice was so sweet and melodic the way she called out to him. It's a scene to be watched over and over again. I think Yang Zi captured my heart in this scene, pure sweetness and innocence.

my interpretation is that YZM broke them up or accelerated it. that whole pricing / kick back episodes were a bit confusing, I'd have to go back and rewatch but I thought he intended to break them up. Also, he told her that being married into Xin family meant she has to give up her career. No one else was giving her these perspectives but him. She may know this but sometimes in life, you need someone to remind you especially if you're struggling with conflicts.

I think Ziyu may act out like she does because her mother doesn’t care. She’s attention seeking - I feel bad…
her travel blog can be helpful

the mother has a lot of flaws, but actually a lot of what she' teaching her kids are good things, but she doesn't understand a lot of things.
It is natural when a person become financially independent of their parents, they work a lot, and then their parents sort of fade into the background.

this reminds me of FIYS where the fl has to call her best friend for advice every time she's not sure of the ML's intentions

thanks. so she came in at lowest entry level and worked her way up then.
I remember a conversation about not having a raise for long time.
by growth, I was referring to the drama the big events in her life, like he tried to break up her marriage.

I find irony in the story because MCH is a strong-willed, capable, and tenacious character who doesn't accept help, yet she's gotten some key help in her life (such as her hotel job) along with some good luck. But of course, it is her own determination and intelligence that allows her to succeed once she gets an opportunity. I don't think she ever got a raise in 7 years until YZM showed up - did she? Grandma recognized that MCH needed opportunities and that she has what it takes. I also find it interesting that this story the mother is actually not the person who most influenced her or made the most impact in her life. Her mother was the roadblock in her life. The grandmother was her true support system and soul mate and opened doors for her. The arrival of YZM is what triggered everything in her growth.

This is not about Yang Zi or Xu Kai, it's normal in dramas for people to hate a character
I have read other MDL drama pages and I don't see this kind of constant and consistent berating of I hate a particular character but i saw it in WoL, SAF6, and now BCE. I just know it will happen in ABAY too. Sure, I see comments someone doesn't like a character, but this is on a totally different level.
