interesting how people rate a movie. So if I don't like martial arts, I can say Bruce Li movies are stupid because all they do is fight. But the aim of the movie is the martial arts.

am I the only one who likes their acting? The moment the two brothers came on the scene, their expressions are so good. so funny. like comedy yet not comedy.

SOKP is not available to me to watch since I don't have membership. From sampling trailers and clips but no understanding of the story, I sense the fl in SOKP is very strong character. She looks mean especially when she lashes out at him. She seems cold and aggressive. In contrast, WoL the fl is strong too, but she is also kindhearted and has a soft and feminine side to her. She is strong on the inside too since she can keep love on the sideline while focus on her goals. But she also has a human side to her, she loves her father and brother so much, we see she can grief and become overwhelmed with emotions... this means she has a heart. SOKP seems like a dark movie so everything has to be hard and cold but WoL is a light-hearted loving movie so the characters can be strong yet soft too. You really cannot say I like this female lead better than the other because the two movies have different aim. In my mind, it makes no sense to compare them.

As Li Ni said to Ying, You are your father's daughter... Like father, like daughter. This is who she is. Her goal is to save her people so they can have a good life. Those are not easy goals. It is fair people can judge her for who she is. As long as she's not evil, and even good people in history have to kill. I am still on episode 22 but I've seen so many examples of selfless actions between them when they are not deep in conflicts with each other.

Sun Jing is a tyrant

Sun Jing is called the commander-in-chief because he rebelled against the throne by slaughtering the entire royal family except the late crown prince son is still in hiding, and LI Ni and his father and brothers did not live at the capital at the time of the uprising, besieged the western capital and from there, he has become a tyrant, controlling the country with his military power. He has no succession rights to the throne under the current dynasty. He wants to find the late crown prince young eight-year-old son, who is the rightful heir, make him emperor, use him as a puppet. Then, later he can kill the kid, and the rest of the royal bloodline (Li Ni, Li Ni father and two brothers), and usher in a new dynasty under his bloodline. He loves the Crown Princess because they are former lovers and intends to keep her by his side. The Crown Princess is the biological mother of the rightful heir. Li Ni father has right to the throne if the court approves it, giving succession rights to Li Ni and his brothers. Li Ni father is stupid person who has no common sense. Since he lacks intelligence, he depends on others and is easily manipulated by them but is not a evil doer, just a misguided fool. The ambitious female lead has always been steadfast in her goal to give the people a good ruler, even if it means she has to resort to ruthless means and rule the country herself. She never wavers from her values, putting it before love and her own life. Li Ni, a man with no ambitions, shares her goal but is an utmost upright man who wants to do right by the crown princess and her son to restore the rightful heir to the throne when he is of age to rule, in meantime, even though Li Ni's father is emperor, allow the young boy to continue to be the crown prince, so the royal bloodline continues through the young boy. They both love each other but neither will waver from their values and conflicts test if their love can be sustained. It will ultimately tear them apart, but in the end, "love conquers all".

I just watched full episode 22. Watching LCF go off the deep end reminded me of the 1987 American film, Fatal Attraction, a psychological thriller about a married man who has an affair with a woman who refused to allow it to end and became obsessed with him. It was the highest grossing film of 1987 worldwide at $320M. The character was made to be Erotomania, aka de Clerambault Syndrome, a delusional disorder, is a relatively uncommon paranoid condition that is characterized by an individual's delusions of another person being infatuated with them. The onset is sudden, and the course is chronic. Erotomania is more common in women but may be more dangerous among men due to the increased risk of violent and stalker-like behaviors. The core symptom of erotomania is that the individual holds an unshakable belief that another person is secretly in love with them. Most commonly, the individual has delusions of being loved by an unattainable person.

Even though Gao Han's acting seems unnatural and forced, but he did pull off eerie expressions of a delusional man. What madman would not have unnatural expressions, so in that regard, I think he did okay. Actually, this villain role of the delusional LCF is a fascinating and complex character, had a lot of screen time, and would have been a really great opportunity for any actor, if done really well, would have garnered a lot of praises.

wow.. even me, I'm totally new to this and I found AvenueX so I looked up her reviews and instantly it was obvious to me this lady has a personal thing against Xu Kai.

based on a comment I saw, this Bai Lu and Xu Kai thing seems to be a thing between the fans. Bai Lu fans claims it is the toxic Xu Kai fans. Boy, this is so sad. I'm so sad to hear this kind of thing.

FIYS is huge international success!

I came across a recent video on You Tube but I don't understand it because it is in another language, but judging from the subject line, it has to do something with Xu Kai and Bai Lu. Seems people out there are still talking about whatever it is between them.

Bai Lu fans blames Xu Kai fans for putting her down and that started this feud between them.
They say it is Xu Kai fans who are toxic.

On MDL Review tab, there are 39 written reviews with the following ratings:
6.5 (2), 7 (7), 8 (4), 8.5 (1), 9 (4), 9.5 (6), and 10 (15)
From 11/29 to 12/1 (3 consecutive days), there were 5 consecutive low ratings of 6.5 (1) and 7 (4).
On 12/3, there is low rating of 7.
The reason cited for 6.5 were Xu Kai can't act or Xu Kai is on a decline but I'm a fan of Xu Kai.
The reasons cited for 7 were:
1) SOKP is so much better than WoL
2) One of the worst scripts. I got so angry watching it.
3) Wonderland setting is fake and the story has insane characters.
4) annoying characters, annoying script, and the leads have no chemistry
5) Xu Kai has had a string of disappointments
6) couldn't stand any of the characters
7) The leads were childish

Some low raters like to point out they are fans of Xu Kai or really like Xu Kai

Avenue X. She is very biased on Xu Kai. It almost feels like a personal grudge or something. She will make sure to point out negatives on him only, that can also be said of others. She even will point out that he can't control his weight. That is how I learned about it. When she reviewed ALP, she said the colors are so boring. SEL, she said it's just a movie with two good-looking people waving hands around. WoL, she says the movie is led by Jing Tian and didn't mention Xu Kai. When people have nothing but negative remarks, it is not balanced. Nothing is perfect, but it can't be all bad.
She devoted entire livestream to SOKP and Bai Lu specifically, yet she gave very negative review of both. I supposed SOKP and Bai Lu are such hot topics, she has to discuss it.

WoL ratings are fine. Douban ratings are very different than MDL. I found some info that helped me to understand why. If you look at the currently watching and completed, the ratings are 8.69 today. The overall 8.5 is not accurate. These ratings are subjective. My guess is the error rate is +/- 0.3. Since Xu Kai has haters, I would say his ratings are underrated. Since WoL had no buzz or media attention and the lead actors are moderately popular, many people have not seen it, and may not with reviewers turning people away, it's a shame.

I am new to this but I think i have some idea now. It's not productive to talk about it.

It's one thing to say, WoL was boring for me because blah blah blah, and another thing to tell people, don't watch WoL if you've already watched SOKP, or to criticize people for praising a movie they like. Why do I need to compare WoL to another movie? I either like it or don't like it. It was obviously not as intriguing to her after watching SOKP twisted plots, so it was a letdown. WoL has a straighthood plot that is mostly predictable. But WoL offers the viewers a different experience that is also satisfying.

In today's reviews, a person rated WoL 7.0 because she had to skip scenes, unlike SOKP.
Somehow watching 100% of SOKP versus watching 67% of WoL left her dissatisfied with WoL. She feels people making comments here are biased and are all about praising it instead of comparing it to other movies; however, she was more objective because she did compare it to SOKP and concluded that WoL was a total let down. She feels if you have already watched SOKP, you will not enjoy WoL, and that is a lot of potential viewers she wants to turn away. It's like saying I got drunk on SOKP, and then I watched WoL and it gave me a hangover. She never said it a person will ever in their lifetime be able to enjoy WoL, all because of SOKP.

Skipping scenes of one movie but not the other could potentially affect one's perception of the movie. Also, the two movies are so different. SOKP is a dark movie. WoL is a light-hearted romance. SOKP is mostly about politics and the romance is at the very end of the movie.

Based on Douban (SOKP 6.9, WoL 6.5) and MDL (SOKP 8.8 WoL 8.5), the two movies are obviously both entertaining to their respective audiences.

This movie depicts a “war of succession” caused by an incompetent ruling family, as portrayed by Li Ni’s father and brothers. The situation invites a military rebellion by those who are superior and want power, such as Sun Jing. Once he rebels, another mighty military army, the Cui family, also competes for power to prevent a tyrant from succeeding or the continuation of incompetent rulers to save the people. However, little did anyone know that hidden in the empire’s West Pacifying army was the formidable and invincible Li Ni. A war of succession can leave a monarch in a vulnerable and weakened state, leading to instability in the empire. Rival claims to ultimate power can spiral out of control into violence.

It is because he does have a very nice voice, which I hope he will be able to hone the delivery and get a chance to use it in modern dramas. He already has a handsome and very distinctive voice. He has been doing mostly costume dramas that require perfect Mandarin which is one reason he gets dubbed. He grew up in Shenzhen, Southern China, and spoke Cantonese growing up, watched a lot of Hong Kong films, including action movies involving cops, undercover, and villains, which like a lot of guys, he is really into that. I think it's been his goal for a long time to eventually try out action roles in the future. Hopefully, when he feels ready and an opportunity presents itself, he will breakthrough. I think he'll be awesome. He also says he wants to play a villain, but he wants passionate roles. My impressions of him are based on interviews he's given.

Finding Netherland says he prefers the female lead in Kunning Palace, well that explains it.
