I could be wrong, but I think GOTD was all about the ML. I recall seeing comments when it was airing that Tian Xi Wei didn't have much screentime. In Moonlit Reunion, it's female-centric story, but in Pursuit of Jade, it's all about the FL. Moonlit Reunion gave a lot of screen time also to supporting cast, and the ML had little screentime.

I think the director’s style has both pros and cons. He’s undeniably artistic and knows how to give viewers what they want, but at the same time, he seems to control so much of the actors’ craft.

I'm a bit torn, because the story hasn’t really convinced me why he needs to keep it secret for so long. Without a strong reason, it ends up weakening his character. Since the story already doesn’t go very deep into the ML, it becomes even easier for his characterization to feel thin.
