Its not like its their choice try thinking what you would do in that chaotic situation to save your husbands life like that lady cop. She tried to get close to him in order to protect her husband so can keep an eye or manipulate his love for her if needed.

On the other hand he tried to win their trust by hook or by crook even if it means selling himself just so that this mission can end quickly and his wife be safe again.

Look at this from a different angel. Not sure if it was the right way to do but they both desperately wants to save their respective spouses.
