Mainly it's because XZ got into a really huge controversy that made him go into hiatus for months back in 2020…
Ah, I see I understand. Guess 'hiatus' wasn't the right term to use, my bad. He just lied low during those times. Also I've been a fan since early 2020 but I only knew about some of these as I was only a casual fan back then, so thanks for this info :)

Didn't say it was entirely because of XZ and the drama definitely did have issues with HunanTV too, which the first reply already explained so I thought not to add that anymore.
I am just curious, does anybody know reason why it took so long until this drama aired? Since it was already filmed…
Mainly it's because XZ got into a really huge controversy that made him go into hiatus for months back in 2020 so his unreleased dramas were shelved for a while and took more than a year to air. OOL was the last of those dramas that finally aired. Anyway, past is past.
I never finished this or got past the first episode, and I want to go back and watch it. I did the same with Joy…
don't feel bad, the story only gets good after ~10 episodes so it's gonna be quite a big hurdle first before you start getting invested. episodes 1 & 2 weren't meant to make sense to begin with that a lot of people got turned off by that so you aren't alone
hope you still give this drama a try though as it's been two years since i've first watched, but i can still say it's one of the best dramas ever :)
One of my many regrets. They fit so well and the writer doesn't have to force it, like they are forcing it with…
YES exactly my thoughts with GYY/AX pairing. Their characters also don't have much chemistry at all, or at least I don't feel it. I like how AX gets concerned over GYY though but, that's it. Moreover, I feel like they'd be the type of couple to divorce later on in real life. But since this is a drama, that's not gonna happen.
And how I wish HY would end up with GYY, I like them together a lot. They'd be the typical childhood sweethearts couple.
Heard the war in episodes 18-19 was believed to depict one of the Sino-Vietnamese conflicts back in the 1950s…
Yeah, I'm not saying China is the only one who does that. And I agree, as someone who watches plenty Western military/war films, there are propaganda present too even in Avengers films. No one bats an eye because the world thinks America and other western countries are always on the good side.

I doubt it was fake news at all though when the Vietnamese Ministry Affairs in China released a statement regarding the issue. Also, the conflicts didn't just happen in 1979 but lasted until 1991. The battle in Ace Troops in particular was irl known as the Battle of Laoshan that occurred in 1984.
And yes, I don't think these particular episodes should be on too much spotlight because as you said, the drama is all about the army overcoming their weaknesses as well as their growth throughout the years. But I also think it's important for viewers to be aware of some potential propaganda they are watching and not get completely misguided.
please be awared that this movie contains misleading details about the war. i didn’t watch it bc i don’t want…
Heard the war in episodes 18-19 was believed to depict one of the Sino-Vietnamese conflicts back in the 1950s (which matches the Ace Troops timeline) though it wasn't explicitly stated on the drama itself. If anyone's interested to read, here's an explanation as to why the way the battle was depicted may be misleading: https://potteresque-ire.tumblr.com/post/672397284523278336/for-those-who-are-curious-the-battle-depicted-in . Not saying this is facts at all though, just an assumption many audiences believed (hence why there were already boycotts months before the drama's airing).
With that, however, I think anyone can still enjoy this drama as a whole as that is, as far as I've already caught up with the episodes, the only questionable part for me. It also doesn't feel propaganda-ish at all, or at least I chose to ignore the obvious patriotic tones. I think it's also important to take note that this drama is just one of the many military/police dramas that were produced as part of the celebration for the CCP's 100th anniversary so expect that China will always be portrayed in a positive light. That's how sadly it goes with propaganda dramas.
