It is complicated. They were both still teenagers and his family was at risk of being killed. He did not want to abandon her and her family and even spoke up "Shouldn't we warn them? What about her and her family?" and his grandfather refused. It is also hinted that he might have been the one to receive her family's bodies and give them a proper place to rest. So it is both yes and no. He was underage and his whole family was at risk they left him no choice. So far he seems like a good guy in a shady family.
