over time they both pretend because they are using one another but then it starts to slowly not become an act. you can see them both struggle with it. I also thought the first handful of episodes were not entertaining but it was worth continuing because it gets a lot better.

I believe it is because the brother of the emperor who is sick is the bad guy here and he was the one who had them punished. he probably wanted to kill them with the nether beast too if I had to guess but we will find out.
