I couldn't stand him in AoS. He was the weakest link in it for me (I was actually going to pass up this drama because he's in it, but decided to give him a second chance). With that said, I do think he's improved somewhat since then. He's not going to win any awards, but his acting is now tolerable and doesn't make me cringe six ways to sunday. Also, he has pretty good chemistry and rapport with KSH, so I feel this aspect further compensates for what he still lacks and makes the drama even more watchable.

I can't speak to the drama Yan Hui on whether or not she's naive, but the book Yan Hui is not. She's a force to reckon with, and she spends most of the novel protecting/saving the ML (not because she's in love with him, but because she is the stronger/more powerful of the two at the beginning of the story and thus, feels compelled to help him) As for book Tian Yao, he's pretty a manipulative and apathetic guy, but that changes as he slowly regains/finds his body parts and catches feelings for FL along the way. Honestly, he's not a cold or cruel guy by nature; he's just a big teddy bear with severe PTSD. And I'd say ML falls for FL first or at least becomes aware of his budding feelings in the narrative before she does, so you don't have to worry about girl-chases-boy dramatics.
The novel is hilarious and tragic by turns; FL and ML are pretty antagonistic toward each other before they establish a solidarity dynamic, so their interactions bring comedic relief to an otherwise dark story; therefore, I'm not surprised by the more comedic direction the director/screenwriter has decided to take with the screen adaptation. All this to say, this story isn't your run-of-the-mill romance, nor does it follow traditional gender roles commonly seen in media these days. So here's to hoping they kept the bones of the story and didn't take too many creative liberties. It'd be an utter waste of a wonderful story otherwise.

I believe they changed it to appease the fans. No one liked having to wait 3 days for new eps, so Youku had mercy on us and shortened it to 2 days instead.

It will be available on the Youku international app which you can find and download from the play store. As for Viki, I don't see TTEOTM listed on their coming soon page, but that could change within the week. Viki picks up many Youku dramas while airing, so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do the same for this one.
