I'm too lazy to respond to every comment but please, for your own sake if you expected something specific from the show (esp FL) but you got something different, you have to drop either the show or your expectations. I know the feeling, it happens a lot, but it won't change.
A strong fl don't have to be cruel and cold all the time, she can be goofy and fearless, or a devil with the most innocent façade, even an unserious lazy OP.. and the general rank comes with achievements, made through both combat and strategies (last is what majorly made He Yan a general), some people are born with an aura, some worked their way up to it..
So, can we stop calling He Yan unsuited and 'not a real general' based on one or two layers of what the carefree her looks like?

Actually we need to drop this and a lot of character's archetype stereotypes asap, it limits one's imagination and may lead to ruining an epic show/novel to oneself and others.

Does she really not know any arts or music? They go to the same academy after all right? I mean even some sime…
It was mentioned in the novel (not yet in the drama) that she was the worst student and the only thing that kept her from being kicked out is her family' name. But she worked hard and was personally taught by Xiao Jue in martial arts and her master in war strategies.
+ She was never taught anything 'meant for girls', but only in how to be her brother.

He Yan deserves to be recognized as a woman who can lead men in battles and protect the nation bravely, she deserves to have her name chanted and celebrated as the woman who broke her cage and spread her wings in a man-only field.. and that's why I love seeing people who adore the warrior her realize that she is a woman, I just love it..

Out of all the things that only exist in fiction you decided to focus on how is everyone believing she's a guy…
dude first of all why would they focus on her voice or something the world is vast and not all men have the same voice tone it's not some recognition pattern for the XY chromosome
and second of all it's fiction. get over it.

+ For the record, some of your questions are already answered in the same scenes you're complaining about.

One thing I can't imagine is the moment Xiao Jue would realize that the woman who sneaked in his army and eventually fell in love with her is the short dumb guy he used to watch over in the academy and the old classmate he thought he misjudged and considered him a reason why his father died.. I can feel the tension episodes away

I know a lot of female watchers love the female lead but damn from a mans perspective she is nothing but annoying.…
Out of all the things that only exist in fiction you decided to focus on how is everyone believing she's a guy and.. a drawback??

well, in case you needed someone to tell you, in order to join the military men need to strip for examination, naturally there is no way a woman will sneak in , but she took a chance to skip that step when she tamed the wild horse.

and I'm not going to talk about you finding her annoying because that's an irrelevant opinion anyway.

Did we notice how He Yan was able to effortlessly take down that man but she decided to drag it out and buy time for Xiao Jue, since the garrison was left with only inexperienced recruits? yeah that's my girl and I'm excited to see her shine more in the next arcs <( ̄︶ ̄)>

All of that and we're not even halfway through, they really ask for the impossible when it comes to female leads.. exaggerated expectation and illogical demands

are you watching bits of every episode or commenting based on edits? because the only time she hid behind the ML was when she was acting as his weak nephew 😭😭😭

Why is she so weak? Thought she was a general?
She spent a month in coma after being poisoned, blinded, stabbed, and fell of a cliff.. the only reason she's alive is the plot :))

Am I understanding this right, or is the plot just about the FL being ambitious and wanting to become a general?…
Idk what you expected but I think you'll be satisfied~ she wants to reclaim what was hers and prove that she once became general Feihong because of her own efforts, and the journey will include several battles, wars, schemes and politics, and finally justice to herself, on top of that romance to make your toes curl :)))

In the novel, He Yan is only 16-17, she was described as petite, delicate, not very strong but extremely intelligent…
Yes that's why I love her, she's so special as a general and I think it's kinda unfair to say she doesn't look like one just because she's basically her age

I feel like the editing is kind of choppy with the clips but I saw people say it’s because they’re cutting…
They did replace him but I think most of the parts they cut are due to censorship and restrictions, not only him

i really wanted to like this but im not convinced i feel like they should have hired older actors zhou ye does…
In the novel, He Yan is only 16-17, she was described as petite, delicate, not very strong but extremely intelligent when it comes to battles. her as a general is known for strategies rather than combat skills, so the choice of an actress did justice for the original source.
+ she is observant, with one friendly fight with a certain character she noticed that there was something wrong with him and eventually realized he's a spy.. more she's currently a mere soldier why would she distant herself from her comrades..
for her being childish and friendly with everyone, a part of it because she's finally free from her family

I think they added an arc or stretched one of the important ones that's why they're accelerating.. + given the…
In the novel, after rebirth she didn't look the same, so they didn't recognize her, which is a HUGE difference in my opinion, so now the He family won't only rush to destroy evidences and witnesses, but will chase her and try to kill her again, and that gives us a new arc (hopefully for sure)
