Not a sad ending, more like a conclusion to the first part of the story that left us Impatient for season 2, lowkey calm before the storm type of cliffhanger. and definitely there's a season 2, the ending tells us this clearly even the cast did, but it's not even filmed yet or anything~ so we're just painfully waiting

HEAR ME OUT ! being upset about the whole revealing and misunderstanding thing is completely normal, but IT MAKES SENSE!! HEAR ME OUT FOR A MINUTE !!!
point 1. a reminder that He Yan didn't die, so the drama plot is not "He Rufei killed his sister who was originally General Feihong" but "He Rufei tried to kill me and I am General Feihong".
point 2. altering the courtesan story and forwarding it was to trigger He Yan's guilt, obvious.
point 3. it was only natural for He Yan to face Xiao Jue with the truth before he discover it himself and the betrayer would be greater than the love. WE DODGED A BULLET unfortunately.. the angst would've devoured!
point 4. Xiao Jue did doubt her for a minute out of confusion, the pain of losing both parents tragically is enough to kill, so it's only natural to be overwhelmed from the possibility of the love of your life having a hand in it. even if he learned that she's not responsible for anything, it will take some time until he cool down and his emotions are stable again before thinking rationally, and realizing that he wronged her.
point 4,5. you can see him regretting it, watching her from a distance unable to approach because he subconsciously realized her worth, how he love her and how he hurts her. it'll take him time to apologize and everything, it's his first time after all.. + he's a tsundere what did we expect huh?
point 5. this is coming from an author, not a viewer.. as much as yall hate misunderstandings, we actually can't survive without throwing one or two to spice up the love :) can you picture the kiss after yearning for days and understanding each other's better? #needthat #lotfgpleasehaveit

What a hard question... I think it depends on what you expect from it? because to a lot of us it has the perfect amount of everything, yet it's lacking to a lot as well.. Anyway, rather than usual trolls not many people from what I've seen consider it overrated.
