Yep! Although the language in this drama is not the typical mandarin that people in China would use to communicate now. It is set in the Qing Dynasty in the late 1700s, so some of the words and phrases they use are outdated and hard to understand.

Well, there are lots of other dramas in this comedy/time-travel genre though honestly this drama is certainly the best out of the best. But I guess The Eternal Love (not Eternal Love, THE Eternal Love) is pretty good too. Their budget was tiny and the sets are very... not great, but it is funny and there is good chemistry.

Okay from the small amount of news I've seen on douban + Zhihu, it's not necessarily a flop, I just think it didn't perform nearly as well as it was expected to given the star studded cast. 6.3 on douban seems accurate to me IMO, maybe I'd have it higher because at the very least the characters do grow although there are obviously some weaknesses in storytelling/pacing IMO. The thing is, it's not super high on the "trending" page on douban, unlike, say Word of Honor, which was steadily in the top 5 while it was airing. There's a lot of mixed opinions on Zhihu, and I think a lot of people dropped the drama early on due to things like 1. replacement of dramatic scenes with drawings 2. deviation from the manga and 3. supposed lack of chemistry.

Regarding point 7, Leyan actually still does like Shu Yu, or at least believes she does (she confesses to him in ep 35 or 36 I don't remember). But I personally think she doesn't actually like him anymore, and I think even Shu Yu knows that (he told her about how Hao Du let Changge get away etc). B

lmao the second female lead is a naive princess with no martial arts training. wtf do you expect her to do? attack the people beating the child and then get beat to death herself? is that so much more logical? she has no experience talking with normal citizens of the country and honestly she really had no ability to do anything else. it's uninteresting to have a character that knows how to do everything and has no flaws or challenges in life.

Ohhhh. Well, there is some levitating and sword-fighting (im not sure if it's mid-air but yeah), but overall I wouldn't say fighting is the biggest aspect of this show.

maybe not? It is more romance heavy than wuxia heavy I would say, but if you don't like either genre it might not be the show for you. There is a lot of scheming and some very complex characters though!

Huh? If someone doesn't like the first episode they have all the right to give it a 1.0. You don't have to watch every single episode of a show you don't like, then research the original source material, read all of that, then research into the lives into every person on the team, and read every Weibo from every person on that team to rate a drama.

I honestly don't think Leyan and Hao Du are a "good" couple in terms of writing/creativity/uniqueness but they have such good chemistry that I ship them anyways. I like them as a CP, not nearly as much as a "couple" if you can understand that. Good chemistry dictates how well received a CP is, good writing dictates how well received a couple is.

I haven't read the manhua but I do know that in the drama the two leads meet a lot faster than they do in the manhua, he also doesn't find out she's a girl until later too.

So by that logic, would one consider Ashes of Love a tale about family? or Love is Sweet to be about investment? Point is, they have business in there, but is it the main theme? Is the overarching goal of this drama for Su Tan'er to become the best businesswoman in ancient China? No, actually we change to the palace and those affairs soon enough. If anything, these business adventures are just plot devices to build up to the final point (be whatever that may be). I don't see business playing a prevalent role in trailers or interviews either.

I would not say this is a business drama. It's a time-travel comedy/romance with a bit of business stuck in there.

there is no rule for that? If Yang Yang likes the script or the role why shouldn't he accept this? If pairing up with a less well-known FL will give him more screen time or time to show off his talent wouldn't that be better than having to share the spotlight with a FL, SML and SFL?
