i saw on avenueX youtube channel that this was also cut into a film? if he cut a movie version of this, this might get a proper English release (film release means he might want to submit this for international film festivals). until then, i'll suffer without subs and rely on my duolingo mandarin.

i don't think they could write him like they did the book bc the book was written in like 1974 lol. i welcome the update to blackthorne's character wholeheartedly. he's supposed to server as the outsider in the narrative (literally lol) and it works

iirc adoption is not much of an option in japan. i've only seen situations of adoptions where a rich business…
it is very unfortunate and i too wish adoption or fostering was brought up. i also wished the character in this drama, aoki saku, who was an orphan brought up the possibility of adoption to nana but as i understand it, it's a very complicated process in japan and it's most likely by design. hopefully things can and will change.

iirc adoption is not much of an option in japan. i've only seen situations of adoptions where a rich business owner adopts an adult (!) to take over their company over their kid. most children who are out of a family register end up in foster care until adulthood. it's sad because in the drama, you saw that they applied for a a subsidy/grant to go through in vitro and i feel japan should push for those who can't have kids to adopt or foster kids. but hopefully that changes.
