This movie might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. It makes me think that it would have been a movie my sister and I would’ve enjoyed rewatching countless times if it’d been released a few decades earlier; when we were very young. Light and sweet romance, and ends in a satisfying way. Yet, I understand why some people didn’t like it.
I enjoyed this. But I wish they could’ve shown more of Kaori’s hammer; made it less of an Easter egg.
Regardless, I think this beats the Jackie Chan one (that I feel like watching now), but still keeps its campy charm for 2024.
I’m hoping there’s a sequel because there was so much unfinished business with The Union. Also, I’m glad there wasn’t any romance. Kaori and Ryo can be a cute pair, but I don’t think it fits in the scheme of things in this adaptation.
I’m gonna give it an 8.0 / 10. I needed more. A sequel, maybe?
(But it’s so annoying and disappointing that we can’t watch it now).
