Tbh, I didn't see the ending coming in detail but I did wonder if we were supposed to be suspicious of the character played by Matsu Takako from the start because I literally recognized her the moment she appeared on screen and wondered why she would pretend to be an elderly lady. Like, Matsu Takako is just instantly recognizable and the makers would have to know that.... Right?

No, I understand that you don't mean to come across as aggressive but you comment a lot in this thread and the accumulation of that seems aggressive. Like, I understand that you love this drama a lot but you can't force people to see it the way you do. If people don't feel that the drama gives them any need to think about anything, they won't. That's not their fault, the drama just doesn't spark anything in them. So I get that you want people to think about it more but if they're not interested, they won't. Also, to be fair, some people might have liked season 1 more exactly because it was more black & white. And they might have disliked this one because the message was less clear. So they might have a good reason to dislike it as a whole or Yuri in particular or anything else about it.
So what I'm trying to say is, you maybe don't mean it that way but you don't come across as wanting to discuss the drama but as you telling everyone with a different opinion that they're wrong.

You raise some interesting points but it's kind of insulting to insinuate that the reason why people don't like s2 is that they don't use their brain. People aren't of inferior intelligence if they don't like a certain piece of media and they are allowed to express their opinion (as you also do). It's nice to see that you found a drama that holds special meaning for you but you can't change people's minds by being aggressive (which is frankly how you come across).

I also think I maybe would have minded less if they had put it later. Some of the later episodes were also pretty weird, so they would have set a different tone. But the first episode still started fairly realistic, so rather than to think about the real issues (i.e. home abortions & double standards), I kept wondering why no one questioned the whole pregnancy as if the boy was Virgin Mary (which technically he was if you consider how pregnancy works).

I can't remember much of the first season tbh but this one is very artistic. Some of those shots are gorgeous. But, man, they shouldn't have started with the mpreg. That was just so weird. Like, I get what they were trying to do and the message was important but I just kept wondering about the mechanics. Like, why did no one ask HOW the boy got pregnant? Everyone's main concern was that he wasn't a girl but shouldn't they instead have noted that the dude wasn't gay? So what, did they think he impregnated himself? Like, I know that this show has a lot of things that are impossible IRL but the whole pregnancy hurt my brain a little.

I don't know what I expected but this is seriously dark at times and full of triggers.

9 episodes in and I'm confused. This feels so weirdly generic. It's as if someone read the summary of KO One on Wikipedia and then wrote a season based on that. They spent a lot of money on set pieces and CGI and stuff but..... At this point there's no storyline I'm invested in except that of a random villain who was made unnecessarily batshit crazy.
Also, the success of these shows is that most of the central characters are fun to watch. Serious characters can be sprinkled in between to balance out the comic relief. But in this season they so far kind of missed having a fun central character. Take Gu Zhan. I like the character per se but he worked in the other seasons because he was calm while surrounded by craziness. Gu Zhan worked in combination with Zhi Ge and all the drama around him worked because most other scenes were hilarious. But in this show it's like they figured that making Gu Zhan suffer is a great way to create drama, so whenever he appears, it's exhausting.
I think that's what bothers me. This is a rehash of things that worked in other seasons but it's done in such a lackluster way that I just can't bring myself to care. And that can't just be because it's a coproduction with China. KO 3an Guo 2017 also was a rehashed coproduction and that one was hilarious and yet had the right amount of drama that made me care.
Meh. Mehhhhhhhhhh.

Maybe the movie should just come with a disclaimer. "Are you a straight dude who likes lesbian porn but can't just drop that in a conversation? Do you want to impress your friends by telling them that you watched this super serious lesbian movie and are thus totally accepting of different lifestyles? Then this is the movie for you! :D"

I also wondered if the actresses were told what kind of movie this was going to be. I can only hope that the intentions of this were good and that the direction was just super misguided. I mean, apparently there are men who think that female nudity is a sign of empowerment? So maybe the director really thought that he did well but then he did it through the eyes of a straight man? But then again... You gotta wonder if what you're doing is okay when you have a character who is a "hardcore lesbian" but then two of her sex scenes are with men? And both of those are totally unnecessary (like, she didn't actually have to sleep with the man to kill him).

The way it's filmed is super questionable. This is a wlw movie but it has the same kind of unnecessary boob shots as in every regular ole straight porn. Woman kills man? Cool, but we need to see her boobs covered in blood! Also, he should sleep with her and grab her boobs first. How do we show that a woman was abused by her husband? Boobs covered bruises!
And that's only like the first ten minutes.

Only 17 episodes in, so idk how this is going to turn out but it bothers me a little how they again introduce another potential love interest for Lei Ting. Like, I don't hate Zhi and their interactions are fun (though clichéd) but in KO 2 + 3 we spent a lot of time on her and Da Dong and her and Wan Jun and those were easily among the plot lines I liked the least back then. I don't watch KO dramas for the romance. Also, Lei Ting is a genuinely badass character but she's treated like she only has the right to be that way in order to be the girlfriend of a badass dude and like???? That's so annoying. Just give me badass female main characters who don't hook up with dudes!

Same for all the other girls crushing on Gu Zhan. Like, I get it, cool dude but do we really need Qiu Qiu and Taiyang to crush on him? Do we need that to be such a vital part of both girl's scenes? Gu Zhan has a dozen plotlines he's involved in but Qiu Qiu is reduced to being the girl he's worried about and Taiyang is the girl who's trying to impress him.

I mean, there are a lot of dramas that treat their female characters a lot worse. The girls here all have agency and I genuinely like them. But it just sucks that female characters need to have love stories and male characters don't.

Tbh, I also got excited when I saw the title haha. But it's so weird. The kimutaku version still feels like it only just aired recently

Okay, I just love this way too much and I dread the moment when I run out of episodes (currently at 36). This is largely recycled jokes from the 2009 version and yet I crack up as if it's all new to me. In fact, when I see a joke coming, it's sometimes even more hilarious.That being said, the production value is definitely way higher, so that's cool (tbh, in the 2009 version I sometimes thought that it would be nice to have cooler set pieces... Although the cheapness of some effects also added to the charm).I also like how it's not just a remake that ignores the original. They fully acknowledge that they're a remake in the same universe and reference that all the time. At some point one character even complains that the remake steals all the joked from the original. There are no rules and characters talk to the audience all the time. And that's somehow just so smart because that way, they still did a remake and cashed in on a story that they knew works... But at the same time, they don't alienate old fans.

To further confuse potential watcher reading the mixed comments: I loved the movie because it's hilarious. It is a political satire to some degree but it's also an insane zombie comedy. It kind of reminded me of the KO series because some of the humor was just as outlandish.

It's maybe because I read spoilers and braced myself but the episode didn't upset me as much as I thought it would. Narratively, it absolutely makes sense and should have happened. But it's not even like Tian was shunned throughout the whole episode. Longtae supported him relatively quickly and even Phupha went looking for him super fast (all things considered). I've seen dramas with stupid misunderstandings that dragged on for much longer and in which people acted like complete asses. Compared to that, this was fine imho (because again, narratively it makes sense). I think it was like ripping off a bandaid. For a second it's hurt A LOT but you'll be fine soon after.

I like how the story basically only happened because Dude A was personally offended because he couldn't control Dude B. I mean, that's literally it. He could have walked away but he was all "wow, lol, rude, now perish"

Exactly. I really dislike that argument of "oh you know, but SY also had a bubbly personality, so that's cool". But everyone was HELLA confused at everything Sobong said and did? Is SY, a woman raised to become a Joseon queen, suddenly going to talk down to people, threaten kitchen staff, make new inventions, say nonsensical words (& act like the others are stupid for not understanding her), sent midnight "u up?" messages, make midnight ramyun & have the ugliest handwriting in the whole country? (the handwriting is actually what messed me up. CJ will eventually see SY's handwriting and it's bound to look different. People notice stuff like that. BI even recognized CJ's handwriting at some point) And that's the point. Because stuff like that is what made Sobong Sobong and what constantly amused CJ. SY isn't BH. Even if she's more open than before, she's not going to be BH. And that's what makes it sad to me, because of the life CJ will have to lead with a women who isn't quite the person he fell in love with

Super random, but in Japanese "bouya" means "boy" (in like a very old-fashioned, condescending way), so every time Qingming called Boya (which he did a lot and at first always a little condescendingly), my brain automatically swapped the name with "boy" haha
