Title The Gifted Graduation Spoiler
Director supot said he has only killed/harmed 2 person in his life who are very close to him. One is yuth, who…
I'm pretty sure he means Nate and that he killed her because he realized that she was never going to see eye to eye with him although he wanted her to love him.

I legit came here to write the same thing!!!
Yes, me too! I originally actually didn't care so much for him because he seemed bland and I figured he was one of those young actors that get picked for being handsome and tall. I'm not even sure when he grew on me but at some point it was just like, if he's on the cast list, it can't be bad haha

Oh, not yet but that's good to know, thanks! I had Omameda Towako on my plan to watch list but I'll also add Kakenai!
I think I wrote the comment after watching drive my car in which he played such a convincing douche that I was fuming every time he was on screen despite normally instantly liking his characters haha

Title Ototo no Otto Spoiler
Good God, you say how wonderful this film is and then you root around in meaningless minutuea to find something…
Okay... 1) I apologize for my usage or the word "trigger". In my original comment I wrote "per peeve" and that is the real sentiment here. I'm not an English native speaker, so I understand your point that I should be more mindful of the way I use the English language. I did not compare myself to a victim of heavy trauma but you are right. Being concise is the key and I wasnt, so thank you for pointing that out.
2) What exactly do you want me to do? Because I really don't understand why you are personally insulting me.
3) The spoiler tag is to avoid that people have to scroll through long comments unless they want to. Not everyone is interested in internet drama, as entertaining as that can be.

Honestly, this is really weird. I don't normally go out of my way to insult people whose public opinions I disagree with, so I don't know what's driving you to do this. If I can't be offended at a part in a production, why can you be offended at my opinion? Anyway, I can only imagine that you're going through something tough in your life. If you want to talk (or, you know, fight with a stranger), let me know. I understand that it can be relieving to lash out at people who you know won't relatiate in a way that has any influence on your real life.
If not, then I'm sorry that my opinion in a public space offended you and I'm sure we can leave it at that. There's probably not much else to be said. You strongly disagree with me, I'm puzzled by you, the end.

Okay, I clearly offended you for some reason and that is really confusing. If you worked for the production, then sorry, I guess? But I don't see why my opinion should otherwise make you so mad.
Basically, as I said, this is something that triggers me personally as someone who speaks Japanese (yup, 4 year degree), works in a Japanese company (albeit outside Japan) and has lived in Japan as a visible foreigner. I personally take issue with the way foreigners are represented by Japanese, that's why I couldn't finish it. It's just small issues but Japanese people tend to be very nationalistic and that is something I've personally been confronted with a lot. It's like any other trigger. I'm not sure you can judge anyone for their experiences.
Still, I've seen enough dramas in that style (though not the content) to know that this is an important step for Japan to gradually create awareness for LGBTQ+ individuals. That I could judge after one episode. Also, as you said, I dropped it, so I didn't rate it because that wouldn't be fair because I haven't seen the whole thing, so really, I don't see why my personal opinion is so important to you.

Super lame but she was my favorite version of Diao Chan up to date, so rather than to actually remember her name, I'm just like "Diao Chan!!!!!" whenever I see her.

Damn second lead syndrome. 3 episodes in and I just want the FL to end up with her lawyer friend and I know that's not gonna happen. The ML is so incredibly dramatic, I honestly don't think I want to reach the point where she falls for him.

Title My Beautiful Man Spoiler
I get that it's more pleasant to translate kimoi with 'weird' rather than 'gross' but I think that's not really…
I mean, yeah, calling someone weird is definitely rude, too but personally, I think that weird (in both English and Japanese) isn't really that insulting. Like, I think it's more often used in a neutral/somewhat affectionate way. But I think what we have with Kiyoi is a speech pattern that's super common for young people (especially boys), at least in all languages I know. They deliberately use edgy words or change the meaning of words. Kiyoi talks like a typical 'cool dude'. I think in a social hierarchy like a school, you don't normally get to the top by being nice but by being tough. So I think that he absolutely means 'kimoi' affectionately but he is super rude and does put up a barrier and that does make it confusing and that's his whole character.
Also, to be fair, Hira is also very direct and that makes it hard to react to, too. Like, in that one scene (that got mistranslated on viki) Kiyoi was like "don't jerk off to pictures of me" and Hira was like "oh sorry, I already did". "that's weird" would be too neutral, that would sound like he doesn't mind although he should. "ew gross" makes more sense because then he can pretend not to be into that idea (although his actions are completely contrary).
(also, I do think that 'gross' is the better translation than 'disgusting'. Disgusting does sound like a serious insult but gross isn't that harsh a word imho)

For all who had an issue working out Kiyoi's use of the word "disgusting" and "gross," that is the fault of Googala,…
I get that it's more pleasant to translate kimoi with 'weird' rather than 'gross' but I think that's not really reflecting how Kiyoi actually talks? He totally uses that typical shoddy youth slang that's actually pretty rude all around and I think that's part of his character. Like, he uses words as a barrier. It's as if someone said that something is "fucking great" and it get translated as "very great". Yeah, that's essentially the meaning but the connotation is wrong. There's another word in Japanese like that: 'yabai' means 'bad' but can also be used to describe something good. But that's not how you talk in a polite setting. That's crude as hell. So basically, Kiyoi could have called Hira weird because, as someone pointed out before, there's a word for that. But he deliberately chose 'gross' because that's how he talks.

On JAM: The Drama Dec 21, 2021
I think this drama is a lot of fun and the twists are insane but tbh, I think the insanity and randomness might be a little much after all. Bringing together several storylines is a sabu trademark and I love that in his movies but I think it mainly work in movies because they're shorter. Here it feels a little gimmicky and weird the further it progresses. I still think it's very good since it's fast-paced and fun(ny) but idk, I do think that sabu is a better movie director than a drama director.

I like how you rate men and women. A man at 29? Just a kid. A woman at 36? Wow, someone shoot that damn cougar.…
That is insane! I mean, cougar imho kinda implies borderline pedophilia to me, so the age difference should at least be 20 years and the guy should be barely of legal age. Society is still so misogynistic. My aunt is a year older than my uncle, so ever since I was little I was fed the opinion that she's too old and that's just bizarre. But when a guy is older, the age gap doesn't matter at all. Like, people don't even perceive that as a story about an older person and a younger person. It's just "a normal love story".

Okay, yeah, that's a definitely much more sophisticated take than mine!

Ahhh, sorry about that haha! But it was weird right? Like, in some scenes it looked like Okada was gigantic and 3cm shouldn't make such a difference. I suppose they tried to recreate the height difference of the manga but I kept wondering why they didn't just pick a shorter actor rather than to go through that trouble

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean but in the movie it looks like they have like half a head of a height difference, so my guess are insoles. It also can't be a camera angle issue because there were a lot of shots of them walking side by side with their feet visible (so it also wasn't a pedestal). Anyway, as I said, that struck me as a odd from the start, so I've been paying attention to that to an insane amount of time during the movie.

I think this is a fun idea for an episodic drama. But it bothers me a little that this is totally coming from a very patriarchal viewpoint. Like, this is about a middle-aged dude who spends his time watching women in a batting center and who, rather than to just mind his own business like a normal person, approaches them to meddle with their lives. That's kinda creepy, and yet he's the hero.
