Certainly fyi;chinese authors tend to write very long chapters and it took me over 4hrs just to read 35 chapters. I don't think they had the budget to make it that long and include every scene. Even mei(the prostitute was chu san's classmate but they removed it)They seemed to have tried their best in including much of the book and trying to make it make sense but there are obvious shortcomings to it.

The reason they can't remove the police part it cuz its integral to the main storyline. I think they are planning on doing a season 2 possibly season 3. So we might see more of the proper plot then.
